Journalist from the UK covering, consulting, and training on conflict, violent extremism, minorities, media, and politics in the South Caucasus since 1994.
As a journalist who has long covered Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest in the context of the unresolved conflict between the two countries, I was also happy to see that the Azerbaijan jury award Armenia with 3 points last night in Tbilisi. #JuniorEurovision

Nice. Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan greets Azerbaijan's entry into this year's Junior Eurovision contest, Yağmur, this week in Tbilisi. #ESC

Paybox newly installed in one of my local supermarkets. I never use them but good to see the language options. Hopefully one day not just Tbilisi and soon the norm throughout the region. #Armenia #Azerbaijan #Georgia

Will definitely be a busy year in the South Caucasus in 2026 and revolve around Armenia and Azerbaijan. Elections in the former and moving closer to normalisation between both.

Until then, my recent work plus a little older stuff since 1994 on my website: onnik-krikorian.com

South Caucasus panel discussants now announced. Should be of interest to all in this region. The Armenian, Azerbaijani, and Georgian foreign ministers, Ararat Mirzoyan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and Maka Botchorishvili, on regional cooperation at #ADF2025 on Saturday. #Baku #Tbilisi #Yerevan 🇦🇲🇦🇿🇬🇪

Incidentally, on the Dead Horse Theory. Though from the business world, it reminds me so much of many Armenia-Azerbaijan meetings. An explanatory graphic.

Armine, the 10-year-old I photographed in Ptghavan in 2002 to document the injuries she sustained from shrapnel in the 1994 Bagratashen market bomb. Photos I took yesterday after almost 23 years at her work place. She is now a pharmacist. Nice surprise to meet again after so long.

As it happened, Armine worked next door at the pharmacy in one of the large supermarkets serving travelers on the Armenia-Georgia road. Was good to get an update on her condition. The explosion in 1994 ripped across her torso and mangled her right arm. Armine lost her elbow and the arm was mangled.

Only noticed tonight. The local Frixx crisps sold here in Tbilisi are actually called "Caucasus Chips." Nice. #Armenia #Azerbaijan #Georgia #RegionalMarket

New Year's Eve was possibly the best ever in Tbilisi. A combination of Georgians who wanted to see in the New Year, Georgians protesting the October vote, and a lot of foreigners either visiting or living here. Also less fireworks than other years. More pics to come. #NewYearsEve #HappyNewYear2025

Father Christmas, Father Snow, call him what you will, he's alive and well in Tbilisi, Georgia. Larger than life, he was definitely a hit with the foreigners and tourists last night. #NewYearsEve #HappyNewYear2025 #TbilisiProtests

Some more photos from last night's Unity March at the #TbilisiProtests. #Minorities #Georgia

Also good opportunity to speak to ethnic minorities at the Unity March about the situation, in this case Diana and her mother Anahit. #TbilisiProtests

From what I understand, last night's Unity March comprising ethnic minorities alongside ethnic Georgians was coordinated by Giorgi Tumasyan and Samira Bayramova, civic and political activists from the ethnic Armenian and Azerbaijani communities in Georgia. #TbilisiProtests

Also good chat with Lisa Torosyan, Exec. Director of Aliq Media Georgia. Her and team interviewing Giorgi Tumasyan, one of the coordinators, at the Unity March. Also great chat with Kamila Mamedova from Radio Marneuli in Georgia's majority ethnic Azerbaijani Marneuli municipality. #TbilisiProtests

Last night's Unity March as part of the #TbilisiProtests. Small but brought together some ethnic Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Georgians, Jews, etc. Interesting longish chat with one of those coordinating tonight. More to say but first will post more pics. #Parajanov

Also from Sunday's #TbilisiProtest which saw the current president, Salome Zourabichvili, address protestors. The political life of the country now centres on what will happen when she is meant to step down on 28/9 December. She says she won't. #TbilisiProtests
