Celebrating American One-Hit Wonders from the Billboard Hot 100 era... A US #OneHitWonder is a group/performer with just 1 hit single, as measured against the industry-standard US Billboard Top 40, which is #1 through #40 on their Hot 100 chart. 🇺🇦 🇨🇦
#Interestingly An interesting lil’ tidbit… and because I like the song... Jim Peterik also co-wrote, with Sammy Hagar, the title song for this 1981 adult-themed animated fantasy film. #JimPeterik #SammyHagar #HeavyMetal #OneHitWondered

#QuickSidenote Survivor recorded a demo on Feb 1, 1982, at Chicago Recording Company... Stallone loved the raw energy so much he kept that demo in the film’s opening… even after the band re-recorded the track for the album/single. #Survivor #RockyIII #JimPeterik #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Stallone sent a rough cut of the opening montage, temp-scored to “Another One Bites the Dust.” Jim Peterik & guitarist Frankie Sullivan built the now-famous riff & timed the chord hits to the on-screen action. #RockyIII #Survivor #OneHitWondered

#QuickSidenote Legend says that “Poor Man’s Son” is the song Sylvester Stallone hears via Scotti Brothers connections, leading to that phone call to Jim Peterik. #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Sylvester Stallone wanted a hard theme song for Rocky III. After Queen wouldn’t clear “Another One Bites the Dust,” he got in touch… Famously, Jim Peterik hit play on his answering machine and heard, ‘Yo Jim, give me a call, it’s Sylvester Stallone.’ #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Jim Peterik was coaxed into meeting guitarist Frankie Sullivan in 1978... & They click & start a new group. Peterik recruited jingle-session vocalist pal Dave Bickler; drummer Gary Smith & bassist Dennis Keith Johnson (he’d known them from Chase). #Survivor #JimPeterik #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Jim Peterik was scheduled to make a guest appearance with Chase at a concert in Jackson, Minnesota, on August 9, 1974. He ended up not being on the chartered plane that crashed en route to the show, killing Bill Chase and some of his band members. #BillChase #OneHitWondered

#QuickSidenote Yeah… The ‘Jimmy’ that Bill Chase referred to in that clip was Jim Peterik. #BIllChase #JimPeterik #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly Jim Peterik’s next Chase chapter? After the Ides of March went on hiatus in 1973, he reunited with Bill Chase for the third LP, Pure Music, credited as vocalist and songwriter. He didn’t tour, but he did make occasional guest appearances. #Chase #JimPeterik #OneHitWondered

#QuickSidenote Jim Peterik wrote “Boys and Girls Together” for Chase’s self-titled debut album while he was with The Ides of March… he didn’t perform on the track. The lead vocals were handled by Ted Piercefield, one of the trumpet players not named Bill. #BillChase #JimPeterik #OneHitWondered

#Interestingly The Ides of March went from a high-school group in the Chicago ‘burbs to a national act... Jim Peterik wrote and sang “Vehicle,” but check out “L.A. Goodbye,” which was a big Midwestern radio smash and a fan favorite… also penned and sung by Peterik. #JimPeterik #OneHitWondered

I've got a couple of old Maxtor external drives gathering dust in a closet right next to me... 🤣

I used to work for Sympathy For The Record Industry... Just saw the name and it came to me... I don't think I ever worked on any of the releases, but I know I've got some of them still around here, somewhere.

#QuickSidenote In the UK, Susan Maughan’s sleeker, more polished cover version also became a hit… and also peaked at #3 (and also, I believe, a one-hit wonder in the UK) #MarcieBlane #SusanMaughan #OneHitWondered

I've never watched any of his stuff... I've never wanted to crib off him, which I'd undoubtedly do.

...and yeah, it is an interesting factoid. I certainly have no problem with anyone with some particular knowledge schoolin' me on something. I like factoids, and the more I have, the happier I am.

It happens all the time... if I had a dollar for every time someone points out a factoid that's buried deep in one of these threads I'd have a nice chunk of change... 🤣

It isn't easy to navigate through this stuff.

I've seen that 'legend' a time or two... but he still checked off on that video, so I'm of the opinion that the story MAY have been damage control. I generally try to stay away info that I can't really find a good source for...
