I asked if she even knew who any of them were.
She looked at me and said, “What do you mean?”

That was the moment I realized so many people don’t vote based on values or policies.
They vote based on habit. Fear. Tribalism.

And they pass it down like tradition.

I still remember the first year I could vote, my mom told me to “just pick anyone with an R next to their name.”

I saw this photo and thought the C U Next Tuesday was taking photos because he was just a man creeping on women.

If you had told me five years ago when I moved to Nashville I’d have this sense of home here, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Have I done or said ignorant things?

Most likely.

Have I kept people around me who are willing to call me out and correct me?

Yes absolutely.

Do I take their word for truth and change my actions/words instead of just getting offended?

Every. Single. Time.

I have been called racist maybe two times in my life (that I can remember) and they were both out of spite or misinformation, not my words or actions.
