Enjoys reading, overthinking, and holding my 12-pound cat like a shotgun. Usually not serious (unless I am). Public health nurse. Recovering journalist.
Do you think this little guy has megacolon? I rescued a cat back in May who could not poop on her own and megacolon was the diagnosis. Cisapride and Miralax didn't help her at all, and by that time I had bonded with her, so I paid for surgery. She recovered and now acts like a normal cat. Mostly.

Just receieved this today from Florida Blue. This is for a Bronze plan. Our monthly premiums are going from $333 (2025) to $2300 in 2026.

We are still in the "chaotic and unpredictable" phase of her body learning to control her new GI configuration, which is not fun for anyone. But as a colorectal cancer survivor, I can relate. #Caturday

If it doesn't work the only other option is surgery to remove her colon ... which would cost thousands of dollars.

I tried not to get emotionally attached to her, but ... I failed. I really want this cat to get better. I don't want to have to make the decision to euthanize her.

If she doesn't do something normal-ish this weekend I'll take her to the vet again on Monday for another enema. She was already a bit backed up when we started the cisapride so I'm wondering if that might prevent it from being effective.

I can't imagine how people do cat rescue every day. They are angels.

This morning, she head-butted me on my chin. We are calling her Charlotte ("Charlie" for short).

So now she's relaxing in a spare bedroom, on twice daily doses of MiraLAX and lactulose to keep things moving, and getting used to having access to food, water, and a soft blanket to sleep on.

I gave consent and went back to work, telling myself even if it didn't work and the cat didn't make it, this end was better than her dying a slow, painful death in the Florida summer heat.
