Oh wow, Planar Gate. Haven't seen that in a dog's age.

Right? Like...I doubt it'll make my top 3 Treks, but it's fun, mostly lighter and bubblier, has a few standout characters...really very watchable.

I really hope that they follow a common YA series route in basically giving each character or two their own episode to 'breathe'. We've had Caleb and Darem PoV, hopefully we're due for a SAM, Jay'Den and Genesis, then the season finale caps as an ensemble. It's a trustworthy structure.

The weird thing is they ended episode 1 with a version of San Francisco that captured the exact level of corniness that Faith of the Heart had and would have been basically perfect.

I strongly suspect a number of 'fans' were only interested in the pseudo-military asthetics and have NEVER had the media literacy to understand the message.

I mean, he did twice the work.

I might still check it out if Fisto fists until he can't fist anymore.

I refuse to believe klingon culture doesn't have some kind of 'Epic of Gilgamesh' ancient character and his forged-in-fire enemy-to-lover. Klingons howl at death and swear lifelong blood oathes. There's an 'Alexander the great taking a moment to frolic with his lover before sacking a city' in there.

That's some synergy. 'Can I pay with a Team Rocket's Mewtwo?' 'PSA 9 or 10?' 'Ungraded' 'Best I can do is a 2 week on your anti-depressant, you'll have to pay for your sleep aid out of pocket.'

I like to think it's an anglerfish situation. Which half is the bait, and which half is the mouth? That's up to interpretation.

I have it on good authority they're bigger than a breadbox.

I described it to a friend like...if you're 1000 years old you can be an Elrond or a Tom Bombadil...just a dour old guy in death's waiting room or a weirdo dancing with his fairy wife.

It's a DRAMATIC time-skip and fully canonizes the controversial 'Burn' as law of the land, but it has the fingerprints of a solid Trek. The first episode crams a lot into a short runtime, but by episode 2 the pacing smooths out. The individual characters are very endearing and optimism is high.

Episode 2 is much more 'cozy Trek'. Lots of talking by smart people in sharp uniforms and cannisters of self replicating boogers.

They had WW3 and a nuclear winter so...y'know...still tracks.

More importantly, we now have *type of nut**container*, and no alien has ever been better.

I think the lanthanites we've seen (all of like...2?) are a refreshing take on the extremely long lived species: they accept that time isn't a 'judge' and get quirky and weird. Ake knows that EVERYONE around her is a 'child' by comparison and, while she respects them, she's also humoring them.

If a consumable is rare or (heaven forfend) unique, then I will NEVER use it. I like my inventory to look like a record of my completion. It's possible in 30 years of playing Final Fantasies that I've never used a Megalixer.

Episode 2 really felt more like a polished Trek to me. Far more emphasis on smaller character moments, and even if the B-story 'romance' plot isn't my bag, I really appreciated that things got to breathe.

That is a Jem'hadar/klingon hybrid, a confluence of two highly stabby species. She should be built like a brick outhouse and look like she eats bowls of thumbtacks for breakfast. The Jem'hadar sure as heck wouldn't use their new autonomy to make themselves smaller and frailer.
January 17, 2026 at 10:23 PM
I think episode 2 especially nailed the aspirational spirit that's key to proper Trek. I'd honestly much prefer more of these types of low action, high dialogue type stories in the future. I think Trek is well due for a nudge back to its philosophical roots as opposed to 'adventure.'

It clearly says to 'behold a goblin'. Badum tish.

'So we had these eugenics wars that just fecked up EVERYTHING and remain a cultural trauma point 300 years after the fact.'

'Say no more fam.'

She was a standout for me as well. I love a solid 'hardass with a heart of gold' character.

Recently our mother had severe hospitalization delirium and it was heartwrenching seeing her sheer fear and lack of understanding. Having to make decisions FOR someone, and just hoping you're doing it right is intensely difficult. Makes space for yourself: it's one of the hardest times in life.
