Dishwasher noodl that's wary about the internet.

Wondering where all those pronoun/bio things are? Maybe when we get past the "acquaintance" phase. Until then, all you get is "I'm Canadian" and "over 25."

Enjoy my unpopular takes, and NSFW likes, ig?
Hoping hornet and peach.

Oh, yeah, r slurs on the regular, too.

Part of why I'd rather be somewhere where the social expectation is more polite/considerate.

Part of why I'm eventually getting a black belt on the more-immediate-scale - too many people getting way too comfy with L takes.

Don't bother with Canada. It's bad.

It rotates every 36 hours, I swear. >.>

Huh. Still on "can't confirm" turf. I'll call my own foul on that one. Sorry. ><;
November 23, 2025 at 6:57 AM
Ah, found where I caught wind of it, might be Discord, not Electron, but can't confirm.
bsky.app/profile/nerd...
Wait, why in the everloving fuck is Discord eating 2.5 GB of RAM? What is going on here
November 23, 2025 at 6:52 AM
Might be because I used an older install media, and upgraded versions after to get where my current system is.

Either way, project for before work tomorrow.

...if I remember. orz

Sorry for the derail, but thanks for good info on this one.
November 23, 2025 at 6:45 AM
I've noticed it lessen, but not stop entirely, mostly lines up with the switch to https, though.
November 23, 2025 at 6:42 AM
Ah, I'm on Ubuntu. 草
November 23, 2025 at 6:37 AM
And that's exactly why I'm zero-trust on that. I don't trust that EVERY developer is going to cover that - hell, that's a mistake *I* might accidentally expose in learning how to handle input via PHP/HTML/whatever-other-web-dev-stuff.

...I miss the pre-Chrome days.

What build are you on, I haven't had anything murdered by the kernel for memory limitations. O.o
November 23, 2025 at 6:29 AM
> auto-correct
You can get names and a couple of obscure passwords - useful PII data.
> social media algorithms
That's a psychology discussion for another time.
> traffic lights
Good use-case, no potential PII handling.
> hardware thermals
Also useful PII data, can create use-time charts.

Have any on them had an uptime in excess of 12 hours?
November 23, 2025 at 6:21 AM
My argument applies equally to ML - it ultimately is data that will prove valuable to anyone willing to fish it up, and is kinda a needless/excessive strain, especially on older systems that are struggling to keep up with 5+ ads on one page.

Use-case vastly more important than differentiation.
November 23, 2025 at 6:20 AM
At the processor rates we're at now, we're at a point where optimization corners are absolutely getting cut in all sorts of different directions - mostly memory use, right now (I hear Electron apps have likely memory leaks from not clearing things from cache), but every bit adds up.

Spell-checking on dedicated document writers? Fair game. Putting a LLM there? Not cool, breaks NDAs.
Spell-checking on a browser? Needless. Adding a LLM on top? One compromise could mean learning a scary amount about a user (or even multiple), and puts a bigger target on the end user.
November 23, 2025 at 6:10 AM
Yes, because I need a regex running through the input box at about 15 times per second. Yes, I recognize that also describes spell-check, and yes, that's generally bloat also afaic.

Transparency is also a resource hog on .NET frameworks, yet it seems to also be the default on "modern" OSes. >_>
November 23, 2025 at 6:02 AM
It's still bloat. Unwelcome bloat.

Despair At Last in my ass.

Wouldn't you be able to at least use linking to defer the task to some kind of third party, so you can save local bandwidth?

Also, sorry I haven't been helping, been kinda burnt out of social media. D:
November 21, 2025 at 8:11 PM
Had.

They bent the knee, we'll see nothing but Twitter-brain here in 18 months, tops.

For further context, I have a trip to Japan slated for April of 2027. Kinda need to save for that first.

...and learn JP even better, but eh.
November 11, 2025 at 8:21 PM
Oh, yeah, absolutely, this is plotting WAY ahead.
