At least the me in my profile picture is touching grass?
They’re gonna be asking where Mankrik’s wife is in Barrens general chat, and I, with a tear in my eye, will tell them… “in my pants!” and pretend I’m not nearly 40.

Is that because when it’s local, it’s likely a combination of immediacy and perception bias combining to make it always *feel* like the numbers are going up? “We didn’t have a mass shooting for years, then we had one!” leads to misinterpretation of the data.

Isn’t Jr Marcos the current president?

I don’t understand how Eric can say this when Loomer basically implies 65 million bodies should be fed to the alligators.. and that number just *coincidentally* happens to be the number of Latinos in the USA? If that’s not her saying “THIS SHOULD BE A DEATH CAMP” what is it saying?

What a fucking year huh?

Hmm, what could possibly be different between maintaining considered, targeted tariffs with limited impacts designed carefully, and slash and burn worldwide tariffs with no seeming rhyme or reason? Jeez I dunno! But maybe I’m just a dumb pleb who needs a smart journalist to explain it to me.

What do you mean? Why wouldn't the President and their family stay at the White House?
March 3, 2025 at 4:05 AM
Please do point out to me which bill has actually been brought to the floor for that process to actually *start* with the Dems yet? Cause I sure haven't seen it. And I'm pretty sure that Obama and Biden both passed budgets via reconciliation bills, which is probably what happens next for the GOP.

Because some concessions were made to ensure the final version of the ACA that passed had 60 votes, including the defection of Arlen Specter from the GOP (which partially came about as a result of McConnell's threat to filibuster the ACA and the rightward swing of the party).

Cloture for Executive branch nominations doesn't. It was changed to be simple majority.
February 17, 2025 at 11:49 PM
And worth remember that the Dems (plus the two independents) only had a filibuster proof 60 Senate seats for 72 sitting days of that congressional session).
February 17, 2025 at 11:45 PM
Your original point was "what did the GOP minority in congress do to obstruct Obama in 2009", but you've then moved the goalposts to include activity outside of that. Sure the Tea Party began in early Feb 2009 as a response to the election, but what did they do in 111th Congress to block Obama?
February 17, 2025 at 11:45 PM
I genuinely don't think you remember how it was basically impossible for the GOP to do anything to stop Obama's legislative priorities for the first two years with a full trifecta. And then it got easier for them to make shit hard *when they had power in at least one part of the Government*.
February 17, 2025 at 11:34 PM
Yeah, and he had a Majority in the House who used the power of committee and purse to gum up the works for Obama, and additionally they had sufficient seats to use the filibuster, making McConnell's job even easier. Remember how the Dems had to get rid of the filibuster for cabinet appointees?
February 17, 2025 at 11:32 PM
Again, this is historically inaccurate. For the 12 combined years of Obama and Biden, the GOP only had a minority in one of the House or Senate for just 4 years - the first two of Obama, and the first two of Biden. In both's first midterms, the GOP gained the majority in the House.
February 17, 2025 at 11:30 PM
No, I don't, cause this is revisionist bullshit and someone as supposedly knowledgeable as you should know better. The GOP didn't get its shit together after 2008 until the Tea Party took control of the GOP majority in the House in the 2010 midterms, and gained enough in the Senate to filibuster.
February 17, 2025 at 11:22 PM
Sure: because Republicans were only in the minority in Congress/Senate for the first two years of Obama's presidency. Do you remember the Tea Party surge in 2010? I do! GOP gained the house, took leadership of House committees, and gained enough seats in the Senate to deploy the filibuster.

Context is important! He's responding here to the media talking about the GOP's wild claims that it will be Dems fault if a government shutdown happens. He's not talking about opposing Trump's agenda here, he's talking about the GOP blaming the Dems for them not being able to pass a funding bill.
February 10, 2025 at 1:17 AM
So do you want to post the actual context of this clip, where he's answering questions about the GOP blaming the Democrats for the possible shutdown if they don't pass a budget?
