Why is Megan so high up the list? I don't think she even released anything this year, bar that single.

Noooooo

Maybe I should play in French? I'm pretty sure that English is the base template, but maybe it makes a significant difference. I'll give it a shot.

Also, this is not a problem unique to Clair Obscur, but so many games have people not talking like people.

Beats will exist between lines that mess up flow, I suspect because they need to make sure lines from different languages work with the same animations. It always fucks with my immersion.

The prologue, specifically, is designed to create solid characters in a generic but promising configuration that you are able to impose previous experiences upon, and then crash all your hopes against the rocks.

I see the effect, intellectually. But my lack of genre experience mutes the impact.

Thunderbolts is so fucking good. Reframing superheroes as first responders is genuinely revolutionary in this climate. And damn good characters.

BNW...could've been saved? Invert the action scenes: start with Ross hulking out, end with Isaiah unable to forgive the US gov. There's a story there.

The show is absolutely incredible. One of the best shows of the decade, I'd argue one of HBO's best ever, and is so much more interested in engaging with the themes of Watchmen while also doing its own thing.

Fallout as in Amazon Prime Fallout or Fallout as in Mission Impossible: Fallout?

YES. EXACTLY. PERFECT.

I don't hate this movie...until the last twenty or so minutes, which I am convinced actually last for four hours.

Like, I could get to the end of the climax, and I'm sure I could watch all of The Batman before the credits roll.

All the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters. As far as I know, all of the games are playable with only right-handed inputs: the right stick mirrors the D-pad.

The only one here that I have played and disliked enough to mention is God of War 2018. Combat sucks, story pacing is at odds with the pseudo-open world, and it's so pleased with itself and its gimmick (I love never being able to see facial animations)

Will probably make a good TV show one day.

This meme is like 3 generations out of date, I swear I've been seeing ones that list Fortnite as "Ancient." Now, on the one hand, those guys are definitely trolling, on the other, Fortnite is already like 8 years old, pretty up there for "most popular of the day" multiplayer shooters.

I have like 4 I wanna see, but no knowledge of what's good:
- The Phoenician Scheme, the new Wes Anderson movie
- Ballerina (John Wick spinoff)
- The Life of Chuck (Sci-fi slice of life? I think)
- Materialists (Romatic Drama, director of Past Lives, reviews remind me of Phantom Thread)

Well, now we're getting into in-lore motivations, of which there are infinite potential explanations.

Perhaps, from Skynet's point of view, "one Terminator is strong enough to get the job done" was also true when they sent one to 1984, and that fucked up so bad they gotta do it again.
June 12, 2025 at 1:05 AM
Yes. Every sequel to T2 works on different rules for what time travel does and doesn't affect, all of which are mutually exclusive with each other. That said, I think only Genysis is confusing to the point of interference, the others make sense, quality aside.

(Also we threaded the convo aaaaa)
June 12, 2025 at 12:58 AM
In the opening of Dark Fate, if I recall correctly, the Terminator that kills John Conner wasn't newly sent back. When the T1000 was sent back, Skynet also sent another T800 as contingency. The T800 succeeded in its mission, but Skynet still never exists because of the destruction of Cyberdyne.
June 12, 2025 at 12:55 AM
Urgh...because loosely defined time travel.

T1 supposes that time travel doesn't actually affect the past. That the whole series is in a time loop.

T2 then supposes that time travel *can* cause the flow of time to be changed, without a paradox forming. Back to the Future 2 rules, essentially.
June 12, 2025 at 12:52 AM
Different war. The future war, as seen in T1&T2, was prevented in T2. The evil AI isn't Skynet in this one.

If, before the defeat of the T1000 in 1992, John or Pregnant Sarah was killed, the future war wouldn't have been prevented, and thus everyone would be dead.

Ah darn, this was a few hours ago. I was gonna say, if you're having trouble with the GOG version, having bought it legitimately, I'd recommend emulation of the PSX version via RetroArch through Steam.

No resolution-scaling options, unfortunately.

Financially, it was. Shame too, it's really good. But the combination of an abysmal first movie and releasing just before most people felt it was safe to go to the movies led to it underperforming.

But still, strong enough that James Gunn was put in charge of all of DC and Peacemaker got 2 seasons.
