I'd say nah, 3 does a very good job of standalone storytelling and is a phenomenal game (and two expansion length dlcs) in its own right. 1 and 2 would give more context and worldbuilding but there's not quite an overarching storyline across the series.

The real JoCrap was the imposter syndrome we embraced along the way.
