When I was a kid my parents worked a lot of night shifts so it was up to my older sister to watch me and my younger sister. She would read the Hobbit to us for a bedtime story, which was my gateway book to my fantasy addiction :)

Six books are by Herbert himself, the rest were written by his son Brian and Kevin J. Anderson based on some notes left behind and stuff like that. I haven’t dived into those yet however so I can’t give any opinions on them

I have read up to the final novel written by frank herbert. They aren’t horrible after the third book but the story kinda starts bouncing all over the place.

The first three Dune books are amazing in my opinion

The Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio is an excellent read. Ashes of Eternity is a fun series I have a book in if you are interested.
