I have discovered the problem and it's that you should never mix Lightroom CC with Lightroom Classic! I will write this up on my blog for others.

This is Lightroom cloud being synced to a fresh catalogue of Lightroom Classic. Should be identical. The _synced_ number is correct, I just don't understand where the other (higher) number comes from!

I thought that but I have no videos!

Only thing I noticed is that keywords do not sync from Lightroom to Classic which is a shame. I don't use them much, only for my film photos to tag what film and camera I used.

Right, so if you treat Lightroom as the master and upload there, then you can do you editing in Classic or Lightroom and it will sync just fine?

I will do some experimentation. Slightly nervous but I like the idea of having all my photos on local disk in a sensible file structure.
