The fight for survival is against the publics and there won’t be enough students for everyone to make it. Private institutions outside of certain elite ones are hanging by a thread and mostly cost the same as publics thanks to tuition discount or reset

There are hundreds of small liberal arts schools and most are non elite. In Virginia the privates are the access institutions with higher first gen rates than UVA or W&M. I work at a place enrolling 50% DIII athletes, 30% first gen, primary appeal to lower and middle income families.

Also like, why are all the ones that get publishing deals so much worse than actual fanfic I’ve read? I’ve read well-written fanfic but god the ones that get these insane deals are… not. (I skimmed through a library copy of Alchemised and woof)

And everyone can be angry about the decline of the historic, traditional liberal arts majors and programs all they want - but students by in large have little interest in enrolling in them.

As someone who's worked at one for 20 years, I think the reality is that a lot will end up closing. And I'm not sure there's a bulletproof way to stop it.

I can report that literally no one is listening. The student section boos loudly every time and throws more snowballs. I haven’t seen anyone ejected!

This dumbass never makes mashed potatoes so I got a big bag of the little potatoes like I always get. I was in potato peeling hell last night. BUT through much perseverance and also sitting down because I could not stand one more second, mashed potato casserole is in the fridge ready to bake!

this is misinformation. Professional degree refers to the higher borrowing cap. You can still borrow up to $100,000 in federal loans. It is problematic but this screenshot is nonsense. www.aau.edu/newsroom/lea...
Proposal to Implement Loan Caps Threatens Access to Professional Degree Programs | Association of American Universities (AAU)
A Department of Education-convened committee reached consensus draft regulations to implement student loan provisions in a bill (H.R. 1) that Congress passed earlier this year. The new regulations wil...

Professional status refers to the higher borrowing cap for degrees such as M.D., etc. These professions are eligible for all the usual federal financial aid, it is just capped. www.aau.edu/newsroom/lea...

this is the rule for my "sidesgiving" (the 4th annual!), come one, come all, bring a dish, bring a drink, I have a bunch of chairs in the apt and if we run out we'll perch somewhere but you're invited. It continues to work out!

I'd like to wrap my noggin around the Worship of pop stars which is over-mined material but I think we take it for granted that it's the pop stars who are worshipped (and abused) when I think the devotion is to how they give us access to our own feelings made huge / it's self-devotion / yeah, sure
