I have just listened to the Prime Minister announce his commitment to increasing defence spending to 2.5% of GDP from 2027, with an ambition to reach 3% in the next parliament. This is a momentous day for our country and our national security. (1/5)

This Labour government are delivering on our promise to put more money in people's pockets.

This week we've confirmed significant increases to the National Minimum Wage and the National Living Wage from April, set to boost pay packets by as much as £2500 a year.

I'm looking forward to voting for the Water Bill this afternoon.

As I said last month, this Bill will clean up our water by:
🛑 banning bonuses for polluting water bosses
🚨 bringing criminal charges against lawbreakers
💰 forcing water companies to cover the cost of enforcement

It is a national disgrace that homelessness and rough sleeping levels are at an all-time high with over 123,000 households in temporary accommodation after 14 years of failure.

Today we're investing £137m for councils across the South East to help break the endless cycle of spiralling homelessness.

Yesterday, I joined fellow Labour Reading MP @mattrodda.bsky.social in welcoming the government’s Water (Special Measures) Bill, which will give regulators the necessary powers to tackle the disgusting sewage problems we have had with Thames Water and protect our beautiful rivers and chalk streams.

Investment in R&D will be key to unlocking economic growth and scientific advancements, which is why I was delighted to see £20.4 billion in funding in the Budget. There's so much exciting activity happening on our doorstep, including the work on food technology done at the Mondelēz Reading campus.
