Finished the Masters and no longer have access to the fantastic studios at Leeds School of Arts 😞😞

All that ear training meant I started to be able to hear how bad my room sounds 😅 Anyway I've done what I should have done a long time ago and set things up properly

SOUNDS AMAZING!....DUH 🤦🤦

Because there’s much more to perceived loudness than the LUFS value.

Things like the performance, arrangement and choice of sounds, EQ balance, density, intensity, internal dynamics, saturation, distortion, stereo image etc etc…

Not bad finds for £9.50, thank you CEX 🎉

All mixed in stereo and 5.1 surround sound, these should be good listens for my research project

Today I revisited a nice multitrack I've had for a while and worked on it in 5.1 Surround. It's a Cover of Tom Sawyer by Rush.

I'm using all stock reaper plugins so I can take the session home and work on it later. Of all the nice plugins I can use, the basics are still impressive🤘

Just realized the theatre room at uni is NOT properly calibrated for the listening position I was using.

After doing my own set up at home I realized appropriate calibration is so important for surround sound. It sounds way better now!

Are there any Audiophile Meshuggah fans out there that would appreciate a 5.1 mix of Future Breed Machine?

Or am I a lonely surround sound enjoyer 😭

Today I threw together some rear surrounds using these old hi-fi speakers I have in an attempt to approximate 5.1 for Immersive music listening and mixing.

It sounds great! I fear I've learned something I can't unlearn and stereo just won't cut it anymore 🤷

Yesterday I had my first experience with a proper surround sound set up and one of my favourite albums of all time 😁

I've enjoyed doing my own research and looking at some of my favorite music through a spectrum analyser

By using IQ-Analyser by HOFA to overlap multiple curves, you can see a clear pattern

At the very least, I find this 'shape' quite pleasing for modern rock masters 🤘

Spotify has truly succumbed to 'enshitification'

If you can: buy physical media, source digital downloads and cultivate a meaningful relationship with the music you enjoy listening to.

That is all
Why I Finally Quit Spotify
The platform interface has gradually made it harder to find the music I want to listen to. With the latest app updates, I’d had enough.

Some thoughts after my class today

Data suggests that Music Industry Professionals are actually OVER-represented by women and minority groups when compared against census data (populationdata.org.uk/uk-population/)

So why does it feel like issues with inclusivity are sill prevalent?

I've concluded that maintaining good health today may be more about avoiding harm than actively improving it. In an ideal setting the human body is highly adaptable, but not really evolved for modern life.

The prevalence of well-marketed UPFs is an example of this

I ate only McDonald's burgers for two months
What is it about processed food that is unhealthy? Is it the red meat? To shed some light on this question, I went to the epitome of junk food, McDonalds and ate only the beef burger patties for 8 weeks.
