Yes population size is a large factor. Im just hesitant to impose direct population control or management. It is true though that families in cities have fewer kids so increasing urban populations will slow population growth. It's also expected to stop growing globally around 10 billion.

Also people aren't going to stop having children because the city has a certain population limit. We are just going to create exclusivity resulting in greater class divide. The solution is good urban design not banning people from cities.

Cities are more efficient on a per person basis than other areas though. If we allow people to move to cities but in efficient housing and under good urban design the environmental impact is lower because less area overall is being used and more resources are shared.

Yes apartments, townhouses, laneways etc. are more efficient housing options and should be prioritized. We agree that cities need to increase density instead of expanding. That's housing density not population though. Also capitalism or not preventing people from moving to cities is not good.

It's not about a number. urban sprawl is happening because while the city population has doubled its land area has tripled. It's a matter of efficient housing density that isn't being built in favour of expanding further. Capping populations of cities would also be damaging to housing prices.
