Audrey, I’m with you. My kid is in kinder at an HISD Magnet/Vanguard school that is using the curriculum crafted by Mike Miles’ staff. It’s multiple choice worksheets on a daily basis. The work my kid brings home looks like test prep boot camp. I want better for the kids who come after him.

I just really want people to understand that if you have kids filling out multiple choice worksheets in all their subjects on a daily basis starting at the age of five then of course scores on multiple choice standardized tests will go up. But what was gained here? And what was lost?

And thank YOU for the work you do and for taking the time to read my comment and responding.

The only saving grace, the ONLY core subject of any quality, is the Eureka math. And that’s what they took away from those kids at Durham. It should be reported on more clearly if possible.

I feel for these parents. My kid just started kinder at an HISD Magnet/Vanguard school and all I have to show for it is a collection of sad looking multiple choice worksheets. Never in my wildest dreams would’ve expected five year olds looking at slides and filling in worksheets all day.

I truly feel for them if it happens. My kid just started kindergarten at an HISD Magnet/Vanguard school and all I have to show for it is a collection of NES worksheets. Five year olds looking at slides and filling out multiple choice all day long.

Thanks. Spent the long weekend going through all the stages and trying to process this…hearing from you and knowing there are others out there who see how wrong this is and just feeling some solidarity really helps. We keep fighting.

It’s because what they’re being asked to do is wrong and harmful. My kid just started kindergarten at an HISD Magnet/Vanguard school and all I have to show for it is a collection of NES worksheets. Five year olds looking at slides and filling out multiple choice all day long.

Joel, I can attest to this. My kid just started kindergarten at an HISD Magnet/Vanguard school and all I’ve to show for it is a collection of NES multiple choice worksheets the kids fill out while looking at slides. This is across multiple subjects on a daily basis. For five year old kids.
