Making Subo.ai on Discord - get to know your community!
Duly Noted!

Makes sense. Yeah, it would be nice for those who help make Discord a success to get their share. Maybe Discord app developers could get something too... 😁

ok I'm going to take the contrarian view and say that an IPO is probably good news for the company and the product. The company has VC investors who need to recoup their investment and sell, to the public or to another buyer. The only alternative would be selling to the likes of Microsoft or Meta.

What's that? (Discord Partners and elimination rounds)

I read a lot of negative comments about this potential IPO, but does an IPO need to be bad for users? Isn't it also a way for the platform to gain its independence and carve its own path, as opposed to being bought by a Microsoft or Meta and losing the plot entirely?

Not mutually exclusive. ‘Bigoted genius’ seems about right.

Translation?

If that is true, then yes maybe we should finish it, but with very clear timelines, set budgets, and no more surprises.

I hope that you're right and that the trains will be used without connecting to the larger metro areas. If they are, maybe they will connect to the Bay area and LA area. Otherwise, it will be $120bn wasted on empty trains.

America may be a bit more expensive than the EU, which is why budget was $20bn for just phase I. Since the project started in 2015, budget was re-estimated from $20bn to $120bn. I have no proof of corruption, so the only other explanation is incompetence. What other explanation could there be?

1/sorry I didn’t mean to offend you, but this is just math, nothing personal. If it doesn’t connect the main population hubs (Bay Area, LA), it will not have many passengers. Merced has 86k residents and Bakersfield 400k.

Barcelona-Madrid high-speed rail line cost 9€bn to build. CA says it will cost 10x that amount for only a (useless) portion of the trip. CA raises a LOT of taxes and its citizens were supporting the project. The difference is either incompetence or corruption.

Stop trying to find scapegoats for a failure which is California’s home making. California had all the billions and support it needed and still blew it. Is California competent enough to successfully execute this project? That’s the real issue, not Elon.
