That is a "road bike" -- for speed and distance
November 15, 2025 at 8:45 PM
- For stability, keyword "flat bars"
- "Gravel" (not "road bike" since those have drop bars)
- Avoid shocks, mountain bike style (super heavy)
- No "hard tail"
- Good seat is key for rides 2hr+
(Kid is a serious distance and hill climb biker, on a Trek Emonda)

It's terribly sad to watch happening in person. What purpose could clinging to such a belief serve, what does it justify to them? A balm for a deep insecurity? Why cling to it, knowing it tarnishes everything?

"Border Patrol agent who was held up as a symbol of the impunity that critics say pervades the federal government’s immigration crackdown has died of an overdose, the Long Beach Post has learned." Indeed.

Highly recommend going back to school! You will know why you're there and can model for younger students that so much of what they're stressing about is not worth the energy (life experience tends to put things in perspective). Cheering you on! (Went back at 37)

The narrative is everyone is partisan, and thus cannot act in a neutral way in service of, say, an oath to the constitution. This is a nasty, calculated playbook.

My HS senior, in response to questions about why he made a particular choice: "Many reasons."

Fantastic! Reminds me of quilt designs (will send to an expert quilter friend; maybe this pattern has a modern name).

I'm in! (And I'll finally honor one of my closest friends, for whom this was a favorite.) Brand new copy of the Penguin Deluxe Classics edition is all set.

Considering I have a new copy with deckled edges just SITTING here, waiting to be read, this is a perfect opportunity!

Is this entire book just quotable bits of wisdom?! I'm starting to suspect so...

Thank you for this link!!! I wish more areas of study would look beyond US borders to see how others are tackling universal challenges.
As far as your dad, he didn't like the special ed label or autism label?

It looks like they are emerging from the reflection of the moon (I don't know my folklore/ghostlore at all, sadly)

I've talked with my daughter about this, and the importance of connecting with her female professors and classmates, but I know from experience chances go up as class sizes get smaller. So far so good, undergrad in physics, plans of PhD, but I worry. :-(

As someone who currently has a roommate in one section of wall (whom we have named Scratchy), I am trying hard to refuse to be charmed by this!

You'll keep fighting... how? By standing at a podium and making cold-oatmeal statements?

Who is doing the PR consulting for Dems? Why is it so pathetic?? Are they isolated in a bubble and convinced this is some powerful message?

Fool. We will remember who caved.

How to know you're connected to your kid: in the '90s, I got a postcard of the little blue guy in Vienna's Kunsthistorisches Museum. Fast forward 25 years and my daughter shows up with a plush version from the Louvre 🥹
(Vienna has since expanded its gift shop so of course I had to get two!)

A geneticist relative is descending into scientific racism as they age. Their attempt to legitimize this vileness using "genetics is clear" and "you just don't understand the science" is disheartening and infuriating (as is the pervasiveness of this bs! 🤬).

My daughter was visiting the UK during the height of her Tolkien era (we're talking part of international competition, Silmarillion as fave text level) -- and by some stroke of fortune it coincided with your exhibit 🤩💕 surprise tickets were obtained, a magical time was had

Hello! It is well indeed -- one in college (physics), one hs senior (jazz guitar + physics), and a solo estate-planning practice with great clients. Likewise hoping for all the good things on your end! Your cats are fabulous little muffins.

And if you try to explain, you might (hypothetically!) receive an eye-roll followed by "mama, I hate to say this, but you're... not of this generation. We grow up with this, don't worry, we can tell what's not real."

(Hello from former SU Law student!)

So my mom's memories of '60s Poland where there was no crime and the streets were safe might... be based on a darker truth?
