this is something I really love in Kotlin's coroutines-test infra, it makes writing tests so much easier (so long as you know to also reach for race-condition-stressing schedulers every once in a while)

Have you looked at slab allocaters? I feel like that aligns with the intuition here that specifically "same sized objects" would benefit from re-use

no yeah totally, just thought you might be interested in their approach. it's much more targeted at the gradle use case
