On this day in 2011, Stan Musial was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The Hall of Famer played 22 seasons with the St Louis Cardinals. He batted .331 and hit 475 Home Runs.

On this date in 1948 Hall of Fame pitcher Mordecai “Three Finger” Brown passed away at the age of 71. Brown won 239 games, had a 2.06 career ERA and a 58.2 lifetime WAR.

Happy birthday to Sal Bando who was born on this day in 1944. Sal was the Team Captain for the Oakland A’s team that won three consecutive World Series titles (72,73 and 74). Bando passed away in 2023.

Today we honor Chuck Tanner who passed on this date in 2011. Chuck managed in the majors for 18 seasons. He is most remembered for being the skipper of the 1979 World Series Champion Pittsburgh Pirates. That was the “We Are Family” team.
