Lover of oldschool video games, mostly NES but a bit of everything from C64 to PS1.

When not spending all my money on games, it goes on vinyl or guitars.

Also love metal and campy old horror films.

Rather gay
Everybody thinks the first appearance of Ho-oh was in the first episode of the Pokemon anime. It was actually on the cover for The Beach Boys album Love You in 1977….

I can’t be the only person who never knew the GameCube logo is literally a G with a C inside it, surely?!

I found my Roland CM32L in some boxes earlier. Going to have to hook this up to my computer and try making some late 80’s game style music with it.

Making it sound like 1983 in here 😅

I wrote this a few months ago but never came up with an arrangement I really liked. This MonoPoly, Solina and LinnDrum combo works quite well actually.

This is how the FUZE invite works maybe.. I seem to now be at an age where new apps confuse me

This nice Brewdog Vodka I’ve discovered probably isn’t helping..

but yeah, I’m on there.

Whats my favourite Christmas song?

That one that was only ever played once at the end of a Doctor Who Christmas Episode nearly 20 years ago

Is it a Christmas song? No, not really, but it is a great song!

Trying to get my head around orchestral music a bit more, so I thought I’d try to rebuild the #GoldenSun title screen music by ear. Still a lot of blanks to fill in, but it’s starting to sound good.

The #BBCSymphonyOrchestra plugin sounds incredible and the basic version is free… if a bit limited

If you have a few minutes and fancy hearing my attempt at a slightly #SymphonicMetal cover of Arthur by #RickWakeman, I’d love to know if you think it’s any good, I think I’m starting to get the hang of incorporating orchestral elements in recordings now.

One minute I’m talking to somebody about Rick Wakeman’s King Arthur album and suddenly the weekend is nearly over and I’m about a bajillion overdubs deep in recording a cover of Arthur.

This is a little snippet of something I wrote earlier this year.

Totally not my style either to play or to write, no idea where it came from but I’m actually pretty proud of the whole thing.. which is rare for something I’ve written 😅

(Also, it feels weird to write something I struggle to play..)

Tonight I learned that about 10 years ago my old Flickr account saved a load of photos to its camera roll without me knowing.

I didn’t always have a beard, but I did used to have a jawline, it’s just in the years following I discovered a liking for chocolate, beer and antidepressants..

I had a go at covering the ending theme from #Castlevania 2.

I was torn between having it sound heavy and having it more organ led. So I went with both and accidentally created a Powerwolf track.

Six years ago today I stopped smoking tobacco.

The method to my success?

Vaping nearly constantly and reverting to chain smoking the second a drop of alcohol passes my lips…

You know what’s a criminally underrated piece of game music? The Ice Sanctuary music from #DigimonWorld on #PS1

The Dracula battle in Simon’s Quest is probably one of the easier bits of the game if you know what you’re doing, but I’ve always loved his sprite, it’s pretty basic, but when you see it all blurred together on a CRT (or emulated equivalent in this case), it’s a really cool and effective sprite.

You know, Nintendo often seem to come off as the gaming version of that one mate who can sometimes be a total dick and you have to keep making excuses for.. “oh, he’s not too bad once you get to know him”

Don’t get me wrong, I love many of their IPs, but as a company, man they can suck sometimes.

Hopefully Retro Games plan on releasing a full size version of their Amiga clone at some point. I don’t mind minis for systems without keyboards, but when it’s a computer, the option of the right keyboard layout is more ideal to me. Amigas have too many ageing moving parts for me to want a real one.

One of the things I love gaming for is the enjoyment it’s given me for classical music. I’m self taught and unable to read music so it hasn’t really been in my mind, but playing games with classically influenced OSTs has made me seek out and really love some. Like this, maybe my all time favourite.

Between diving into #TheSpectrum and seeing the same portable tape player my Grandad used to own eBay, I’m kinda wanting to get a real Speccy now so I have an excuse to get some tapes.

I’m a sucker for physical media.

Unless some brain box can figure out how to get audio in on The Spectrum

Somebody’s made a #Castlevania game on the Spectrum and it’s damn incredible. Tough, but incredible.

The crunchy soundtrack is surprisingly great too.

I think I’ve just accidentally written some #AnimalCrossing music ….

Or I just now associate anything with an electric piano with Animal Crossing

Either way, I’d better finish this.
November 26, 2024 at 11:31 PM
I wrote this years ago and recorded it properly a couple of months back, no idea what to do with it, but I like it as much as I can something I’ve written.

I wanted it to sound natural so everything is a real instrument except for piano and organ, don’t have space, played on keyboards though 😅

Camouflage by Chris Sievey is a really great song that you don’t hear very often. The extra fun thing about it is the music video which Sievey programmed on the ZX81 making it, as far as I know, the first 100% computerised music video.

I have this idea of writing a piece of music that will be coded on trackers for the #NES, #MasterSystem, #C64 and the beeper on the #ZXSpectrum to be played in unison to form a complete piece of music.

That’s as far as I’ve gotten with the idea, but it could be cool if I can make it work.
