Old Historian
@oldhistorian.bsky.social
Retired University Archivist. Used to write about memory and narrative, relative to documents and records. But have given up trying to make sense of the world.
Self-interested?? You mean the seniors, wealthy or otherwise, who for free, help raise grandchildren, assist in art galleries, museums and libraries, tutor students, work in New Canadian centres, drive Cancer patients to appointments, etc. etc. But sure, I guess we could 'step up' higher.

Started my day reading this "First Person" drivel. Immediately wrote to the CBC to remind them of why they are viewed with utter contempt, even by people who otherwise firmly believe we need a valid national news source. It sure isn't the CBC. Even with new management, they are incorrigible.

Guinan would head for the hills! And, predictably, I am now mentally matching up his caucus with a typical bar scene. Quit when I came to Viersen. Too scary.

A brilliant political move by Carney, and, an opportunity for those with an open mind to learn what the words "constitutional monarchy" mean. Also "Westminster system of government". Also "the King is our Head of State". Lots of civic lessons sorely needed.

Definite"yes" vote here. Focuses the mind and confirms the commitment. Many deviations, from a previous track, which might now be better suited to the candidate, have arisen in this process. IMHO.

Sucksstack maybe.

You don't want to know what Canadian cats think. We think bad thoughts but wouldn't use bad language on Larry's site. We would encourage any U.S. cats (of any colour or gender) who prefer civility, to emigrate. We would welcome them.

Yet I think I remember them interviewing that Andrew Lawton fellow. No surprise. We are awash in cowardice manifested by the abandonment of professional journalism standards, tenets, and principles.

A beautiful photo of amazing birds. Master recyclers, and engineered to perfection for the job. "Rippers" but in a good way:)

Been watching you all winter, Bruce. Best of luck from here in Peterborough (where we have a big Ferreri problem). Fingers crossed for us all!

Many of them 'former' plutocrats who continue to insist on their relevance, and, hilariously, Paul Godfrey who did more damage to Toronto until John Tory beat his record.

The Globe strikes again, giving a platform to a guy who destroyed a viable company, then bailed and made a fortune from its carcass. A guy emblematic of and almost a walking metaphor for bad business decisions.

An honourable man standing up for what's right..unlike you cowardly bunch!

Waiting (im)patiently for mine, Emma!

I am a very private person who rarely speaks/writes, but that Carlson column today had me commenting in the Globe to ask what they thought they were doing platforming an American sychophantic Musk apologist. Disgraceful drivel.

I do not believe you. Sam would never do this...she is an exemplary dog. A stealthy canine home invasion surely?

Coyne actually seemed to be foaming at the mouth, spittle flying, as the vitriol flowed. It was an astounding display, which the editors accepted and saw fit to print.

Absolutely correct. Also tasteless, classless and gormless as is his usual style. Also must add how excellent and helpful your substack re the validity of prorogation is.
