SEC teams win 13 of 17 nattys between 2006-22, take Michigan to OT in the semis last season, and now ONLY have 1 team in the final 4 and you're basically labeling people who think it's the best conference as delusional

The Big 10 has a few great teams this year, credit to them but let's not do this
January 3, 2025 at 3:56 AM
CFB has allowed non division winners in its playoff for a decade, I don't know why people have an issue with that now.

It's easy to say in hindsight given the CFP results, but 8 teams would have been a better size for it. It's rare for more than 8 teams to have a good case to deserve a shot.

It would also make fair scheduling within a conference an issue to handle internally.

So a program like Illinois or USC could be the ones bitching about Indiana's uneven schedule rather than SEC/ACC teams that the B1G doesn't mind screwing over in an effort to get more playoff spots.

First of all, I agree. The same could happen in the SEC if teams luck out & miss most tough teams

What can they do? Honestly, I dunno. I think they'll eventually guarantee a # of slots by conf. Which I don't love... But it would let high profile reg season cross-conf games to keep happening
December 21, 2024 at 3:01 PM
Has Indiana proven they could beat a team as good as the worst Oklahoma team in a quarter century? Arguably no.

It doesn't matter, they "deserved" to make it in with 1 loss in a strong conference. The issue is that the conferences are so big that IU avoided playing 4 of the best 5 teams in theirs
December 21, 2024 at 3:46 AM
Hey man we'll see, I'm embracing this format and looking forward to more cross-conference games with everything on the line.

For the last generation, no conference has done better in playoff/championship matchups than the SEC. We'll see if the ACC champs take care of that crappy Texas team.
December 8, 2024 at 5:38 PM
I'll stop when you all stop lol... If who you actually beat doesn't matter Army should be in. They only lost 1x, their loss is better than either of SMU's, & they actually won a conference

But we all know that's not realistic, since WHO YOU BEAT SHOULD MATTER

It's all good, I get Bama/SEC fatigue
December 8, 2024 at 5:28 PM
Sure they *could*... But its a hypothetical. Hypothetically Bama could have beaten OU too since Bama beat Georgia, etc etc.

In reality the only "big" wins SMU needed to get in were against Duke and Louisville. Without even winning their conference. That's a joke.
December 8, 2024 at 5:21 PM
True. But would SMU beat Oklahoma in Norman? IMO SMU doesn't have a win that good on their actual resume.

Alabama can't be too upset, but the schedule inequity is pretty ridiculous.
December 8, 2024 at 5:10 PM
Cheap shot, but if it merits a multi-game suspension than there should probably be more suspensions going around for similarly bad hits.

Hard to split hairs on targeting-type hits that are all inherently dangerous.
December 2, 2024 at 5:37 PM
Only by their most delusional fans. Even most biased fans, including me, understand that winning this week + vs Auburn is a minimum to get in.

Don't belong on the bubble and won't be. They lose this one and they're done.
November 24, 2024 at 2:46 AM
SEC team fan here. Unless that SEC team picked up that 3rd loss in the SEC championship game, you have to give the edge to the 1 loss Big Ten team.

Still 100% believe the level of play is higher in the SEC, but it's hard to overlook 2 extra losses based on perceived conference strength.
November 23, 2024 at 9:00 PM
If all P4 conferences were equal that would be just fine and dandy, but that's not the reality we live in.

Each of the P4 conferences have an auto-bid, so you're right: win the damn games and its not an issue. If you can't win your conference you'll be compared to other team's that also couldn't.
November 20, 2024 at 5:11 PM
You play ONE team that's clearly better than Kentucky all year. If you can't keep that game close, it will eliminate you from the discussion. 11 of your 12 opponents blow, you don't get any passes.
November 20, 2024 at 5:03 PM
If all we're going to look at is the loss column, we don't need a committee to pick the *best* teams based on what they've done on the field. A pre-schooler could make a playoff bracket based solely on W/L records.
November 20, 2024 at 4:53 PM
Ole Miss has a weak SEC schedule and still has 4 wins that stack up as better than any of IU's

Again, win or keep it close vs OSU & you should get in over the Rebels. But if you get blown out, resumes come into play & Ole Miss has two 3 point losses, among 4+ wins that are better than any of IUs
November 20, 2024 at 4:49 PM
Buddy, you're not listening. If Vandy is a dogshit team, than 11 games on your schedule are dogshit level or much worse.

Win or just don't get embarrassed by the ONE non-dogshit team you play all year and no one (including me) will have any issues with IU being in the playoff. Cheers
November 20, 2024 at 3:34 PM
Only looking at the loss column & pretending everything else is even is crazy, so we have to quantify credit in some way.

3 of the teams you listed are in the top 40 of ESPN's FPI and 4 are rated in the top 40 of KFord's Power rankings. All are 40+ spots > Purdue. IU's only top 40 opponent is OSU.
November 20, 2024 at 3:24 PM
Simply counting the # of P4 teams each team played completely ignores WHO those teams are. By the metrics I've seen, IU only has 1 of the top 7 (excluding IU) teams in the Big Ten on its schedule.

Giving a game vs Purdue the same weight as one vs Texas is not engaging in a serious debate.
November 20, 2024 at 3:09 PM
IU couldn't control their Big Ten schedule, but they did control their out of conference slate & chose to play home games vs FIU, Western Illinois, and Charlotte.

That, combined with their Big Ten luck, leaves them with little margin for error. They need to keep it close vs OSU to "deserve" it.
