HTML is a remarkable resilient format. My oldest web content from the mid 90s is still very accessible even now.

Or PDF for word and similar docs although my experience is that whilst it keeps it readable by eye it doesn't necessarily make the text itself computer readable.

Thanks for the pointer I will have a look when I get a minute (ha ha). Most of the stuff I have to archive is rowing related and I have the tech knowledge to get things up and running. The main concern is just getting it into a suitable static archive format - guess plain static HTML/CSS.

Time is in short supply though and I suspect that when I end up having time it will be nigh on impossible to spin up old versions of the databases and web frameworks. I suspect expired security certificates may prove to be a problem too.

I have a few website archives where we have moved onto the next shiny tech and left the old content out because who wants to convert those old news reports and such. In theory I can spin up the old sites and use a modern web archiver to generate a static version.

I wholeheartedly agree. Bitrot in software is very much a thing plus it is so easy for a new broom to "tidy" things up and get rid of so much history.

The organising committee are still exploring the bounds of what works given the exposed nature of the course. I know they are looking into options for fine doubles for next year but singles are still a couple of years off I suspect.

Save the date. Saturday 7 March 2026.
Nice prizes too! Made from local Honister Slate (sorry no picture of them) and this year presented by a Mr Triggs-Hodge.

I can't say I have any new countries planned but I am umpiring at a new venue tomorrow. The very picturesque Derwentwater at Keswick.

Glad to see you will be in Newcastle on the 22nd. An excellent time to catch up with not only Northern Region clubs but also pretty much every University at the BUCS 4s & 8s head. See you then!
