Still buzzing and feeling inspired by yesterday's Make Them Pay protest! Gary Stevenson's speech that now is the time to place pressure on the government for a wealth tax has given me hope. The next protest will be on October 10th. Let's grow this movement! […]

Whilst running the marathon, I also had NeoStumbler running on my phone, collecting data for @beacondb. Looking at the existing coverage, there were a few spots along the route that had no data. 🤓😁 #opendata #running

Christmas came early at Pisa today, and I got myself a new marathon personal best! 🏅😁 I had to dig deep, particularly after the 30km mark where I ran into headwinds. Somehow my legs even managed to climb up the tower after race, though right now doing anything is […]

Thinking about this more, there is one #OpenStreetMap tag value which is particularly handy, and it is reservation=recommended. Quite often on trips I stumble upon restaurants, only to discover they're fully booked. If I could get a list of places where it is recommended to book, I could […]

Thick as mince and thick as thieves. A column about the absolute idiots European legislators have made of themselves over the naming of food, at the behest of meat lobbyists.

I arrived in Pisa this afternoon, and I haven't been finding it easy to pick somewhere for dinner, even using Google Maps and Happy Cow. In the end, I went with a small pizzeria I walked past, which seemed popular with the locals. I've said it before but I still miss the Foursquare city guide […]

Commuting by bicycle in Belgium pays off as employees earn compensation for every km they ride. 1 in 6 employees commute by bike and get a bicycle allowance of €0.28/km. People cycling to work in 2024 earned an average of around €460 net per year (some as high as €810), up 20% over the past year.

One in five people in Flanders commuted by bike and received compensation last year, but this figure is significantly lower in Brussels and Wallonia.

I'm annoyed and disappointed that everyone has gone along with Spotify's redefinition of the calendar. They "wrap" a year with one month left. As of a few years ago, their data only included 10 months of the year. More and more entities are going along with this - even AntennaPod, which is […]

Sad to learn that Leon is entering administration and closing locations. It was always my go to at train stations and airports, when I needed to grab a quick bite, and it has great vegan options. https://www.cityam.com/leon-to-close-sites-and-cut-jobs-as-it-enters-administration/
