It would take only one comet to establish life on either planet although I guess there probably were thousands. When you look at the bacteria that have been found dormant but alive in the deepest rocks it seems likely to me that life could survive an interstellar journey with no problem.

That assumes life evolved independently on two planets. I think life was already there and arrived on both planets at the same time during the late heavy bombardment.

This is the kit my son and I used. We used a 1 meter long 15cm diameter cardboard tube from the hardware store - the type used as forms for concrete pillars. Everything else is just scrap bits of plywood screwed together. Let me know if you have any questions! Good luck!

You’ll need a couple of special mirrors and an eyepiece as well as the tube. I bought the ones for this one on AliExpress. They weren’t too expensive. There are lots of instructions online on making this kind of (Dobsonian) telescope.

I’m in Japan so anywhere in the US or South America would probably be dark during school hours.

Thanks! I’m really not sure if it’s feasible or not! I’m sure someone else must have tried it though!

It would be great to show the kids the moon, a couple of planets and then a very brief bit about stacking for deep space objects. I’m based in Japan and the kids would be elementary age.
