i haven't done a zine since then, though i very much want to, but so much of a critical voice has crept back into my inner life. my focus is now on video editing. here are pages of zines i was planning to do before i became self-aware again
a cover for a fake magazine called The Silent Cartographer. the idea behind this one was that i was going to do a zine about the (to my cohort) famous Warthog Jump video made shortly after HALO: Combat Evolved's release on OG Xbox. it was one of the earliest examples of a viral video, which depicted the player on the level called The Silent Cartographer collecting a pile of grenades under the rear bumper of a Warthog vehicle and then detonating them with a pistol - the resulting cumulative explosion launched the vehicle sky high. there was an arch on the beach of this level, and the player was trying to launch the Warthog over the arch. video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8Fz7lO6YkA i thought i could do a zine about this video and i probably could have but uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i got bored a desaturated and dithered grayscale picture of me in a hoodie and glaring at the camera with fierce side-eye. looking like a badass, or constipated. or actually there's no reason it can't be both a picture of Radagast the Brown as seen in that shitball live action adaptation of The Hobbit that nobody likes. there is exaggerated chromatic aberration and the following words "we have arrived. and we are ready. to shed this wretched flesh. to become. more. be a wizard. be a shitty old man." cover for a zine i was going to do about Gremlins, Inc., a sorely underappreciated digital board game and one of my absolute favorites.

my concept was making the kind of manual that rental shops back in the day would create for the games they rented out - i have vivid memories of these books being folded-over and obviously xeroxed with clipart and terse, functional-enough grammar. Skeleton was the rental store owner, of course

a delightful drama involving two friends and one of them is a guilt-tripping fucker and the other eager to patch things up and it ends a little too tidy but i love how i took the in-game graphics and made these small panels and played around with how words were depticted

in 2020 covid happened and i got access to weed for the first time in my life and i created free of doubt and self-hatred for the first time since childhood and i pushed out this unintelligible mess called "a zine." it's one of the coolest things i've ever done
