First gift is a mini scene for @endlessknights.bsky.social's character Kelpie! I wanted to experiment with working off of a messier sketch since I spend way too much time on my refined lineart. I love characters with a lab experiment theme/backstory, so I was very excited to work on this one!

Ignore how rough these doodles are but I'm honestly still kind of conflicted on how I want to draw his arm feathers. The top concept is smaller and allows for a much clearer silhouette, but the bottom one looks a lot more like a wing which I feel is important for how I want to present him.

I summarized the lore leading up to this art as much as I could! I put it in bullet point form to try to keep it as brief as possible, but I had to summarize most of the entire first act here, so sorry if it's still a bit wordy! 😭
- Coltrane (grey horse) is the younger brother of Dakota (brown horse), while Leroy (camel) is the leader of an outlaw gang that Coltrane used to be in. - Coltrane ran away from his home in his early teens, where he was taken in by Leroy's gang. - Several years later, Coltrane decides that he wants to leave the gang and live a normal life. Knowing they won't just let him walk away, he fakes his death and starts making his way back towards his family's farm. Though it takes a while, the gang figures out that Coltrane is still alive and begin to track him down. - Once he arrives home, he discovers that both of his parents have died in the time he was gone, leaving Dakota in charge of their farm. - Though skeptical and deeply hurt, Dakota welcomes Coltrane back home and lets him live on the farm, introducing him to his friends and farmhands while giving him jobs around the farm. - Things go well for a period of time, but tensions begin to rise between the brothers, culminating in an argument that results in Dakota telling Coltrane that he needs to leave the following morning. - At the same time, the gang finally manages to track down Coltrane, where they stake out and set the house on fire in the middle of the night. - After escaping the house, the brothers are held at gunpoint by Leroy, who has sent his gang to round up and execute the other farmhands. - Dakota rushes Leroy in a fit of rage, but ends up getting shot in the shoulder. Before Leroy can deliver a killing shot, he realizes that he can use Dakota's life as leverage against Coltrane, thus keeping both of them alive while all of their friends are found and executed.

I based this guy's design on several different animals, but tegus were my main inspiration! They're my favorite lizard species, so I really wanted to make sure that he had some sort of resemblance to them.

Finally finished a rendered piece for my new dragon sona! This was originally just going to be a normal shaded fullbody, but I added a really simplified background last minute to better convey the idea I had for the shading.
