Dietitians in our dialysis program do prescribe supplements (eg Ensure or NovaSource Renal… the latter which does not taste good at all 🤪). Criteria is based on overall protein intake and albumin. #NephJC

But sometimes … one does simply conclude a study by saying more research is needed ! Especially if a systematic review / meta-analysis shows that there is a significant knowledge gap that needs addressing in order to better understand a topic of clinical importance . #NephJC

#NephJC - yes… it is a failure of nephrology and dialysis that there are so few QOL studies or any studies with patient-relevant and clinically relevant outcomes. This highlights the importance of taking the time and effort to engage stakeholders when developing research questions

#NephJC Advanced CKD -> decreased appetite already. Maybe supplementation will help fxn and qol and limit muscle loss when processing to dialysis. As well, we know that sarcopenia prevalence increases with CKD stage. Can we prevent if we start supplementing preHD?
