??? we aren't talking about child abuse/the law, we're talking about kinship structures and how relatives are seen/named in the many different cultures in the US. you said technically it's his cousin, but technically it's not in *his* culture. there's no law in the US around who you can call auntie

the only time i've "used" it is when google pops up something on a search but a lot of the time it's bs and totally inaccurate

but his culture is still indian, so it's not "technically wrong"

i think this is most cultures, including most white cultures. whoever is writing these headlines is completely out of touch with how things work in most communities

the thing is, in indian culture that person *is* technically an aunt and not a cousin because that's how our kinship structures work. so to us, calling parents' cousins "cousin" isn't technically correct. they're our aunts/uncles and their kids are our cousins

I honestly think it’s a narrow section of individualist conservative white American society that don’t do this. I have so many aunts and cousins and idk how or if I’m related to a lot of them but I still see them as family
