Mon Nov 17 The Leonid meteor shower will peak after midnight tonight. The Leonids are known as among the fastest meteors, hitting the Earth's atmosphere head on. The Leonids are not a strong meteor shower with only around 10 - 15 streaks per hour but this year Luna will be out of the way.

The phenomenon is caused by the Sun illuminating dust in the solar system's equatorial plane. Having the Moon out of the way will help, but a dark sky location is also needed for the delicate triangle of light to show. 2/2

The N'ern one reaches its maximum tonight with the radiant just SW of the Pleiades in Taurus. Luna's glare will interfere however, the debris from Comet 2P/Encke includes pebbles as well as dust grains and these produce the dramatic fireballs which will still be visible 2/2

Wed Nov 5 This is Full Moon night and Luna will look down from high in the sky among the stars of Aries for any signs of an early winter. So she can make sure, Luna is now at perigee, the closest part of her orbit from the Earth and may be noticed to look a bit more impressive because of it.

Thurs Oct. 9 Tonight the waning gibbous Moon will be get up close and personal with the beautiful Pleiades cluster, so close that she’ll occult some of the members as the evening progresses. Too bad that Luna will be so bright since observing the occultations will be made difficult by the glare.

Saturn. If the Moon appears a big larger than usual, she is, since she’ll reach perigee, the closest point in her orbit to the Earth tomorrow. As well this is Harvest Moon night! 2/2
