If AI really generates the value it claims to cutting jobs is short sighted. If existing human knowledge is commoditized, then we should be able to invest in generating new knowledge, and creating new kinds of products that were not even possible before.

It's true. Instead of talking about cutting jobs, we'd be talking about all the new companies building new things and AI itself wouldn't be the story.
Instead we're still talking about cost cutting. Seems the market is not focused on investing outside the Al moonshot gamble.

And if Al makes workers more efficient, then businesses not actively hiring more employees are admitting that even with extra resources they have no strategy to grow their business. Like, if one person is effective as ten people, then a business should be able to grow quicker since their operating costs are effectively lower freeing up capital for growth.
So either their business is a dead end, the inefficiency is at the management layer, or Al isn't actually making workers more efficient.

The dumbest part is that they were so hellbent on making sure no one could stop them that they didn't take the time to put up one of those construction privacy screens that help keep people from freaking out that you're performing construction on a historic structure.

You could kind of massage it into something that dovetails with the OG's soft shadow fall-off and super-saturated accents? I don't know exactly what it would have looked like, but I was ready for it to blow my mind. Instead, we just got Tron: Legacy: Red Version.

My greatest disappointment about Tron: Ares is the wasted opportunity to update the visual design and push it even further. The first movie was like... circuit boards! The second was like... glowing command line displays! What if the next one was, like... normal maps!

![It's easier to get away without a big conflict in short stories, instead relying on poeticism.
There's also a surprising amount of utopian sci-fi erotica that goes beyond, "Hey, would you like to participate in [niche, physiologically unrealistic fetish]? Well, through the power of [usually nanotech], now you can!" into poignant character studies, often exploring what it means for a person to get what they think they want, or to live in a society where the dangers inherent in hedonism have been wiped away by technology. On a meta level, you often have characters gifted (doomed to) some transformation or situation that may be grotesque or horrifying when viewed from the outside... But then you're left with the haunting question of whether or not it's all that bad if they're happy with the turn of events.
Don't ask me how I know.
Lastly, Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge is mostly optimistic and set in the near-future. About a week or two from now, actually.
