It is. Taarna exists because the producers of the movie wanted to adapt Moebius' Arzak but he didn't give them permission. Same thing happened with The Long Tomorrow. Hence Taarna and Harry Canyon.

Well, I mean, the whole point of the show is that the magic weapons and artifacts that the kids have are super broken, that's why Venger wants them. The show doesn't really work like a roleplaying session, they are far more powerful than their level.
