Underrated pro of non-academic work is that I can get a result, tell people about it, and then move on to the next thing.

Compared to writing a paper, months of reviews, and half a year of desperately promoting said result + myself online and in person. I loved it! But its a nice change when busy.

Made important progress vis-a-vis dogs in bikes this weekend 🚲🐶

It's DONE! This has been a very exhausting but cathartic process. It's been important to prove to myself that despite the academic 'failure' of leaving I can still write and set my work in stone. 🥳

In the midst of academic career uncertainty I can highly recommend playing extremely hard games with a clear emotional reward for success. Just got my first platinum trophy for Bloodborne!

It sucks to be learning this lesson this late but having an "I'm leaving the field in 2 weeks" deadline really helps with just throwing out ideas you're proud of in order to get a paper to publication.

I wish I'd set myself a challenge to write an MVP like, a year ago at least!

My life

This is my final month in academia and I've just been shown a plot that makes abundantly clear that my research had a lasting impact on my niche subfield - which is what my goal was going into a PhD. Feeling v grateful ❤️
