SmartLess podcast expands into telecommunications
> By now, we have become so inured to products like Cardi B’s Whipshots and the dating app Rebel Wilson launched. So why does the name SmartLess Mobile feel so foreboding? https://t.co/ZiyVdrmkfH > > — New York Magazine (@NYMag) June 10, 2025 • Yesterday, the podcast _SmartLess_ -hosted by comedians and actors Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes - announced they were launching a mobile-service provider called "SmartLess Mobile" • The hosts of the show are pushing the service as a consumer friendly alternative to your typical phone plan, and highlighting it's "cheap limited-data plans". According to the hosts, most consumers are most likely on Wi-Fi most of the time, with Hayes exclaiming in the press release, "if your phone bill knew how often you're on Wi-Fi it would be embarrassed." • This isn't a celebrity's first foray into owning their own mobile company, as Ryan Reynolds invested in Mint Mobile and sold his shares for $1.3 billion a few years ago. But different in the fact that nothing about SmartLess suggests that much interest in mobile network services, from both fans and the hosts themselves. • Some notable comedy podcasts decided to create their own posters to mock this foray into telecommunications. > https://instagram.com/p/DKupmKZpgUt • The Two Friends (aka Griffin and David) from Blank Check proposed "Blank Cares", a new insurance provider for all the Blankies. > https://instagram.com/p/DKukjA1T8X2 • Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas from _How Did This Get Made_ propose the launch of "How Did This Get Banked" a new online banking service. > https://instagram.com/p/DKvS7_tyL6a • Interested in MLMs? _Doughboys_ has got you covered. tweet1/ig post1/ig post2/ig post3/

Disney and Universal Are Suing Midjourney
> Walt Disney and Comcast's Universal filed a copyright lawsuit against Midjourney on Wednesday, calling its popular AI-powered image generator a "bottomless pit of plagiarism" for its use of the studios' best-known characters. > > [image or embed] > > — Reuters Legal (@legal.reuters.com) June 11, 2025 at 11:45 AM Disney and Comcast's Universal are suing Midjourney after the company rebuffed their requests to stop infringing their copyrighted works. Instead, the studios argue Midjourney continued to release new versions of their AI services that boasted higher quality infringing images. Disney and Universal asked the court for a preliminary injunction, to prevent Midjourney from copying their works, or offering its image- or video-generation service without protections against infringement. The studios also seek unspecified damages. > This lawsuit is brutal. One of the exhibits is the letter Universal sent to Midjourney, including a quote from a 2022 Forbes interview that I bet midjourney regrets > > [image or embed] > > — Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) June 11, 2025 at 11:49 AM > The suit includes the legal definition of Shrek > > [image or embed] > > — Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) June 11, 2025 at 12:01 PM > Generative AI companies have stolen from everybody with the implict belief that nobody would actually have the balls to sue them for doing so, and as a result have acted with a blatant disregard for copyright law. They thought big corpos would want to pay them. They were wrong. > > [image or embed] > > — Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) June 11, 2025 at 12:15 PM > There are 30 straight pages of Disney and Universal's copyrights juxtaposed with Midjourney outputs. Worse still, Disney and Universal have catalogued exactly how Midjourney trained their models, including a 2022 Forbes interview where they say they didn't ask for permission. > > [image or embed] > > — Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) June 11, 2025 at 12:20 PM > Personally, if I had a machine that egregiously and blatantly violated copyright, I wouldn't have a public "explore page," because the copyright holders might publish 18 pages of examples of me violating their copyright. Suit also includes tons of Reddit guides to doing so too. Oof! > > [image or embed] > > — Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) June 11, 2025 at 12:25 PM > If I were making a big copyright infringement machine I'd also not have a part of my terms and conditions that says I'd ban people for copyright infringement > > [image or embed] > > — Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) June 11, 2025 at 12:30 PM > Disney sent Midjourney a demand letter, Midjourney said they were reviewing it, never got back to them, then proceeded to launch several improved copyright infringing models > > [image or embed] > > — Ed Zitron (@edzitron.com) June 11, 2025 at 12:30 PM Source 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Riley Keough goes to Graceland to talk her creative process for the Tribeca Female Filmmaker Program
> Riley Keough Takes Aspiring Female Filmmakers Behind the Scenes With New Series In Process https://t.co/ZXv6QTfgjD > > — VANITY FAIR (@VanityFair) June 11, 2025 Last Friday, Tribeca and Chanel gathered some of the most powerful and disruptive female storytellers in Hollywood to celebrate their trailblazing mentorship program Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program. Founded 10 years ago as an extension of the brand’s long-standing, two-decade partnership with the Tribeca Festival, **the mentorship program aims to uplift and develop emerging female and nonbinary filmmakers by providing them with invaluable industry support and, most importantly, funding for their projects**. Actress and filmmaker Riley Keough, whose three-episode short film series was inspired by the filmmaker program (the other two episodes focus on actor Lucy Boynton, actor Ruth Negga and director Nia DaCosta), also championed the need to foster underrepresented talent. In the first episode, “Chapter I: Writing,” Keough steps in front of the camera, musing in a voice-over about her process as a writer while dropped into different scenes at Graceland that echo the rich history of her childhood home away from home. **Throughout the six-minute episode, Keough speaks to the magic found in the fleeting moments that strike inspiration and the unique experience of finishing her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley’s, memoir, which she cowrote**. And since those early days of hitting the road, she has visited cities in Europe, North and South America numerous times for various tours since then. However, the Mexico gig was never able to happen. Jonna let fans know that logistical issues and not being able to secure a promoter and/or venue for a show has made it difficult to visit there... Jason Isaacs remains a disappointment, publicly supports Tom Felton and J.K. Rowling's project
Former Harry Potter actor and man who laments **Mikey Madison** displaying her vulva **Jason Isaacs** took to social media recently to support a flop (**Tom Felton**) and said flop's enabler (**Jowling Kowling Rowling**). For context: Felton is set to reprise his role as Draco Malfoy in Moldemort's [upcoming Broadway adaptation of _Harry Potter and the Cursed Child_](https://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/130681649.html). After Felton's fumbled, bullshit response to being asked about Rowling's views went viral, _"...regular Rowling supporters praised Felton for his response, [however] Harry Potter fans are unconvinced, with many accusing him of privilege and of**'actively ignoring the lives of queer people that are being endangered by Rowling’s views'**."_ Isaacs appears to be coming to Felton's rescue, however, writing on Xitter: **_"'Saw you presenting on the Tonys tonight son – you looked good, sounded good and did great.'** ... He also revealed he had **booked tickets to see Felton in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in November."**_ _ONTD, if you are able to, make a donation to Trans Lifeline or check out other LGBTQ+ charities to donate to. At the least, do your best to share these donation links and resources._ Sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
