#Reading "Making Friends with Death" by @Judith L Lief: "We don't actually live in the past or the future but in the present... on the boundary of what is gone and what is to come: the cutting edge of our life and death... ahead we see our death closing in on us"

#buddhism #interbeing Strangers are just bits of yourself you hadn't met up with yet. Yes, those with a different skin colour or sexual orientation too. Don't reject the stranger: you might be rejecting that part of you that you've been missing all your life.

Woh! Walked into a 'normal' hairdressing salon (I usually use an organic salon). The chemicals permeating the air take your breath away. Some of these clients are fanatical eco-warriors. Do they have ANY idea what they are breathing in here?

#buddhism #non-self #emptiness Sometimes, despite a happy marriage& friends, like you, I can feel lonely, separate. Then, as I sip coffee, I remember: you & I ARE the Universe. We sip my coffee together. Cold coffee and a warmed heart.

#Fenix #Migration #museum in #Rotterdam: deeply impressive; the impact of photos of the effects of the #inhumanity #ofhumanity. Should be a compulsory visit for all who want to stop migration. I myself, unwittingly, migrated and these pictures squeezed my heart. Beautiful museum...

#buddhism #BuddhistTeachings #bodhicittà . Unrequited love: the beauty of the smile in your heart for the beloved who lives on, not knowing that our love is there for them. Surely this is the ultimate bodhicittà: loving without needing reciprocal love. Lay down need & feel freedom.

#TraininginCompassion: #NormanFischer is saying that #Empathy is feeling/knowing what the other is feeling. #Sympathy is actually dealing with the other and their pain. This resonates because psychopaths have empathy and enjoy the pain they cause. They miss the sympathy gene.

Love:
The only love we can count on is the love we ourself generate.
May we radiate love: all day every day. it's not about how much you are loved: it's about how much you are loving.

In my favourite little church: Jesus looks down on his followers with such a sad face: 'I died to save you and you kill & save nothing'...

#buddhism #mindfulness #suffering. We talk about "the cold light of reality". Shouldn't we say: "the warm light of truth"? If we integrate this warmth towards what is real and true in everyday life. This is equanimity: dealing with what is. We avoid the suffering of thwarted desires.

It is always shocking to hear a #meditation teacher promise that #meditation will make you happy, even under the direst conditions. #Happiness is a fleeting, ephemeral and random #emotion.

After weeks with practically no sun, one sympathizes with the ancients who bowed down before the glory of it!

We have built our society on retaliation and have shut out redemption. We really need to redeem more and retaliate less.

This week's theme: forgiving me, you, him, her, them and us. All of us need to forgive us all for being human, imperfect and downright stupid. We have to deal with aeons of pain and all we can do is forgive us all. Forgive our trespasses and forgive those who trespass against us. #BuddhistTeachings

If meditation is without a goal, why do we #meditate? Because, as #ChögyamTrungpaRinpoche said: " #meditation is a delightful and spontaneous thing to do". So whatever you have to do today, start with #meditation without a goal.Your day will have got better.

"we are gardeners of the mind"

Article in #TheLion'sRoar this morning (Seeking Buddha in Gaza) leads me to think: if we feel like banning books, maybe the incitements to violence and revenge-killings in the Bible, Koran and Torah should get some attention...

#zenmoment :..meditation is a delightful and spontaneous thing to do...it is () making friends with yourself...you must have some outlet which is your relationship to the world... so compassion becomes a bridge to the outside world. #chögyamtrungpa #cuttingthroughspiritualmaterialism

One of the hardest lessons to learn: not everyone you love, no matter how close the blood tie, is going to like or love you. Some hurts can't be healed. Some pain can't be relieved.
