Even if they didn't go that direction they could've had an easy layup by doing a very early GWOT game (like '01-'02) starring a young David Mason running into Adler and Marshall, maybe chasing down Mullah Rahman from the '80s portion of Blops2; you get to have your Blops2 tie-in *and* Blops6 sequel

I guess if you're completely unwilling to let the 2025 tie-in for a Blops game go then having Treyarch go back to back might make some weird kind of sense but then why not have your efforts there and throw out another Vanguard or IW or whatever as a throwaway in '24 to preserve your best Blops ideas

I guess to force out another yearly release? But you could have Sledgehammer do another full release and get back to the three-year cycle if you need to buy IW the time

I think they probably burned out a lot of IW staff by rushing immediately MW23 and so they need what's functionally a 3-year dev cycle to put something out, but if I'm being honest the Blops7 writing feels *way* more like IW than Treyarch

I think the problem there is that they damn near got their heads bitten off for mostly accurately portraying Russian war crimes in Syria and Chechnya in MW19 and decided "lol fuck this, we're never doing real shit again" despite the fact that it had the most lauded campaign of anything since Blops2

God fuck realistic lol, whoever came up with that should be destroyed

I think 6 just needed one extra mission to properly wrap things up; having Case and Harrow ambiguously die like that in the helo was a huge missed opportunity IMO. Completely foreclosed any further exploration of the ATA plot

The reason I think it's IW's fault is that 3, 5, and 6 (especially 5 and 6; 3 is contested but I think it deserves more praise than it gets) have coherent, downright *good* stories with well-built characters; Treyarch has a remarkable writing team for their playable action movies

IW, er, doesn't

3 is the only one where you have more than one psychonautical trip, and then only because you experience the game as a parasitic virus hijacking the memories of your hosts via their cybernetic implants; the other two have one each that successfully pull similar gimmicks as the original
November 16, 2025 at 12:46 AM
ngl I actually think this is the fault of Infinity Ward taking over from 3arc, the prior Blops games (3, 5, and 6 – 4 didn't have a campaign) did have more explicit journeys to the center of the mind but they're used *much* more tastefully than in 7, where said journeys are basically the whole game

Pepper Marshall’s dialogue in that opening cutscene with, oh, about thirty “cocksuckers” and there’s no reason they couldn’t have brought back Briggs, seeing as they brought back that one F/A-XX pilot as a ground pounder (still in her flight suit and HMD) for some damn reason
November 15, 2025 at 10:56 PM
It also really badly wants to trade off of Blops6’s success by bringing back Marshall and the Cradle and the Guild but immediately fucks all of that up by not actually engaging with any of the Blops6 stuff beyond names and voices

Played through the whole campaign last night and I am very glad I got it via Gamepass, it's trying to be three different campaigns simultaneously and it fails at all of them
November 15, 2025 at 9:33 PM
Oh dude it's worse than that. It's so much worse than that

Yeah HK416s will just do that, M27s more often than most

How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...
