I suspect the biggest generational difference is that I have my phone to my ear when I call. If you're looking at the phone screen you can see when someone picks up

Well I also let most calls (any from an unknown number) go to VM. But the ones I *do* answer I say "hello" immediately

I guess we'll just sit in silence until one of assumes it's a scam and hangs up? I'm still not clear on how saying "hello" then hanging up when the recording starts gets me scammed

Ok, but I can't see you and I don't know when you're ready for me to start talking until you say "hello". It's literally the reason "hello" was invented.

Based on today's ruling, there need not be any gymnastics at all, just an unexplained "Yes for Trump, No for Obama" ruling with three dissenting votes.
