Another reason for me at least, looking at curved screens all day make me feel like I’m falling into flat ones if i switch between them regularly. Maybe I’m just getting old but it was unpleasant. Super nitpicky of course 🤣

But ymmv of course, I quickly moved off of a 34” ultrawide 1440p for that reason, it felt like I wasted tons of screen real estate all the time.

Problem is: they are expensive af.
For me, the Thunderbolt hub with KVM integrated is worth it because I switch between a work laptop and private desktop at least twice a day, for others that might be irrelevant.
Personally I don’t enjoy ultrawide screens, as I end up working in the middle anyway

Immediate reply guy here:
I’ve just gone a different path, but one data point.
Added a second 27”, 4K display to my existing 27” 1440p and I’m super happy. Lots of surface area, though.
I chose the Dell Ultrasharp U2725QE, they also make a 40” ultrawide version.
Thunderbolt hub, it’s fantastic

If the real goal is to reduce overall emissions, then almost any other policy changes makes more sense, eg reducing overall meat consumption or replacing short-haul flights with trains.

NP, I’ve seen other results, but haven’t dug into the actual sources, where the numbers were much worse. However, I think like with any of these, there are many variables to consider which make it quite tricky to draw real conclusions. They do make for good headlines, though

Of course, take three flights a year and maybe we shouldn’t be bringing our dogs into it, after all 🤷🏼‍♂️

I think the most cited study is this journals.plos.org/plosone/arti...
However, there’s been criticism, too, based on where the food comes from, eg how much is from waste material and not grown for this purpose. The original claim is probably exaggerated, but not completely made up.
Environmental impacts of food consumption by dogs and cats
In the US, there are more than 163 million dogs and cats that consume, as a significant portion of their diet, animal products and therefore potentially constitute a considerable dietary footprint. He...

It is, for larger dogs and average (=low) mileage of (very, in European terms) large cars, due to high emission food supply chains for the most part.

Of course, let’s not look at other activities, which are far, far worse. But as far as the argument made, it’s true. My dogs and I don’t care tho

July 23, 2025 at 9:43 AM
