Knee Deep in Thunder by Sheila Moon. I understand it is part of a trilogy, but I only read this title. I own a copy now to re-read as an adult sometime soon.

Amazingly prescient. Love this author. Loved this book, which I read during the pandemic. Talk about timing. Book 2, Parable of the Talents is in my reading queue. I read that she planned a series of 5 stories, but that it became too depressing for her.
