kjreviewsbooks via Threads: I got into a disagreement with a coworker on Teams two days ago. This man decided to tell me that he made a decision that will negatively impact the work I produce. I told him it would be detrimental to my job, and he said: "it won't be that bad. I know these things." | forwarded the messages to my manager, and just got invited to a meeting with my boss, her manager, said man from the office, that man's boss and that boss' manager. Either this is going to go very bad for me, or very bad for him. I was so frustrated by his implication that I'm wrong. I tried to express this in a professional way, saying "I'm aware there are multiples factors behind this decision, but this is going to be detrimental. In the future, either myself or someone from my team needs to be informed earlier so we can assess the implications and associated costs before implementation." And he told me "there are no implications or costs." Like sir?? I've been doing this for 10 YEARS. YOU DON'T KNOW MORE THAN ME HERE. (1/4) Meeting update: Part 1. To give a small bit of context: my job title is literally Senior Planner. Planning is literally my job. We're also non-profit and partially grant funded. We go into this awkward meeting, and off the bat this man (I'll call him Tom) is immediate defensive. He said that his idea would be so beneficial the company. Would save SO MANY issues, and he's done a cost analysis to see that there is minimal impact so why are we even here? My boss asks me to present my side. (2/4) | share all the messages between us with the room (yay screen sharing!) and show all of my analysis and data. The projected impact to the budget is an added $1.9 million in upfront costs, and an additional $200,000 annually. The alternative plan would pose safety risks to the employees, but not have much added cost. I shared that I did not yet have an alternative plan to address the issue but could prepare one by Wednesday. Tom gets to share his response. (3/4) Tom's only response was "I know these things. She's overestimating and overreacting. This problem needs to be addressed and this is the quickest solution." I concede that he's right, it is a quick solution but what others have been analyzed? How does he know it's the quickest? He has no answer. At the end of the meeting, I was told to prepare some options, and he was asked to stay behind with the group. When I walked out, he did not look pleased. (4/4) My boss just came in to share that Tom and I will no longer have contact due to the aggressive responses to me both in writing and in person in that email. He also told my boss that "'m just a young woman I don't know enough yet." I'm 30 years old, have 3 degrees, and have worked here for 10 years. He's 45 years old and has job hopped for the past 15 years.
