There were other red flags in Caruso's announcement. Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir and mentee of Peter Thiel, is on the Steadfast LA board. You may have seen Palantir and Peter Thiel in the news lately.

But for now, just notice how rising authoritarian state violence and surveillance, which brings massive profits, is framed as a natural "response" to "crime." Once you start noticing how ideological and distorted this is, you can read the news differently.
