Today OFT & @cowc.bsky.social co-hosted the first Central Ohio High School Collective Bargaining Day. Students got hands-on experience negotiating a work contract, learned about what rights they have as a worker, and made personal connections with local union leadership.

Congratulations to OFT members in the Cory-Rawson Support Staff Union, Local 6356. They recently ratified a new three year contract that includes annual salary raises (3%, 3%, 3.5%), increased compensation for aides when they substitute for teachers, and increased compensation for bus drivers…

This week, dozens of OFT local leaders from across Ohio gathered at Mohican State Park for our annual Union Leadership Institute. Local leaders spent 3 days in classes covering: union leadership skills, negotiations and contract campaigns, building solidarity, and AI issues for educators.

Members of the United Faculty of COTC and community supporters rallied on campus today to tell the College's Board and President to "Sign the Contract!" The rally was in response to COTC's attempt to renege on a binding contract agreement.

Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) reached a fair contract agreement with their faculty union in March. The agreement became binding after it was ratified by the union and the COTC Board failed to act within the time limit that is set in Ohio law. [1/3]

Yesterday, OFT & SEIU 1199 library worker members lobbied on the need to fully fund libraries by restoring the Public Library Fund as a dedicated percentage (1.75%) of the General Revenue Fund. We also asked legislators to remove a dangerous censorship provision that was added by the House majority.

Yesterday, the Ohio House passed a state budget that completely eliminates the bipartisan, carefully vetted Fair School Funding Plan (FSFP) that was in the process of being phased in. The budget now moves to the Ohio Senate. 🧵
