However, the vessel’s limited multirole capability meant that it was not awarded a design contract in the ASC program. Despite this, the design‘s compatibility with 6th generation technology meant that Starfleet would keep the design specs in storage should such a starship ever be needed.

Much like the Defiant Class Escort, the Typhoon was a warship from base principles. With relatively little in the way of scientific equipment or civilian accommodations, the Typhoon would instead field a vast array of weapons, concentrated at the vessel’s forward arcs.

Project Typhoon was a design proposal created by Laikan shipyards in 2375 as part of its bid for the Advanced Super Capital program. While not awarded a design contract, the Typhoon proposal represented a radically different take on Super-Capital design compared to the two accepted designs.

By 2385, the MCRN had completely replaced the Mars Defence Net's Starfleet patrols with Deimos Class ships, with the UEDF preparing to take delivery of it's first orders. As fate would have it though, the Deimos Class would be turned against Starfleet in one of the Federation's darkest moments...

While not technically unmanned, the Deimos Class was entirely crewed by A500 Synths. The incredible endurance of the Synths allowed them to operate in environments without interial dampners, letting them use the Deimos Class' advanced thrust vectoring to pull off incredibly difficult maneuveres.

After commissioning Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards to build them an automated starship, the Deimos Class Courier would be launched. Adept as both a destroyer and a medium transport, the Deimos Class was perfectly suited to the needs of both governments, who readily ordered hundreds of them.

Seeking an unmanned vessel to fill a permanent defence role, both groups initially gravitated towards Admiral Buenamigo's Unmanned Space Exploration Starship. However, when the first three prototypes went rogue and attacked Douglas Station in 2381, an alternative solution was needed.

In the aftermath of the Dominion War, the governments of the United Earth and Martian Congressional Republic sought a more active role in planetary defence. With the numerous hostile incursions into the Sol system, both governments believed that Starfleet's manned vessels were not up to the task.

Upon commencment of the evacuation in 2381, Verity would lead the evacuation of several Romulan worlds, including Inxtis, Nimbus III and Yuyuat Beta. A brief refit in 2384 would add Quantum Slipstream to the ship, allowing her to make many more evacuation trips.

As part of her new role, several changes were made to Verity's design. The stardrive rear hangar, originally removed from the Odyssey Class design, was retained over an Aquarius Escort. This was made to both increase the ship's capacity and decrease tensions with the Romulans.

When Starfleet Command began planning the evacuation fleet in late 2380, the then Captain Picard was highlighted as the best leader for the fleet. However, his command, the USS Enterprise-E, was deemed too sensitive to lead the fleet due to her symbolic history with the Romulans.

Originally commissioned as part of the ASC program, Verity was originally the name of the Odyssey Class during its early proposal phase. However, after the loss of the USS Odyssey to the Jem'Hadar in 2370, the project was renamed in her honour.

USS Verity
NCC-97001
The second Odyssey Class ship launched, the Verity was most famous for her role as the flagship of the Romulan Evacuation Fleet. Commanded by the newly-gazetted Admiral Jean-Luc Picard, the Verity would prove instrumental to the evacuation efforts.

The ASDB would continue the work further, using the program as a means to test the next evolution of Starfleet technology. As acknowledgement of their initial service to the project, the ASDB would feature San Francisco instead of themselves on the patch of the project’s new name; the Odyssey Class.

With more pressing concerns at hand, Starfleet would allow the program to continue under one condition; Skunk Works’ members would have to come off the project to assist in delivering the Sovereign Class. A contentious move, Skunk Works agreed with the promise of additional Sovereign Class orders.

Despite Verity’s promise, Starfleet saw the Defiant Class as a faster to deliver counter to the Dominion threat. Verity also lacked details on the computer system that would manage all of these advanced features, with the ship’s proposed Quantum Slipstream Drive requiring enormous compute to work.

Originally ordered in the aftermath of Wolf-359, the Verity Class was the first super-capital design proposed in more than half a century. Dwarfing anything that came before her, Verity had been designed to conduct long solo patrols along the Beta/Delta quadrant border to detect any Borg advances.
January 16, 2025 at 6:34 AM
With this in mind, Starfleet began an open call for new starships to counter the Dominion threat. From this, a collaborative team from both San Francisco Skunk Works and the Advanced Starship Design Bureau would present their new design proposal to Starfleet: the Verity Class.
January 16, 2025 at 6:34 AM
In the aftermath of the USS Odyssey’s destruction, Starfleet was concerned that both current and upcoming capital ships would be vulnerable to the Jem’Hadar threat. With Dominion fleet composition then unknown, there was no guarantee that the attack ships encountered were the only type fielded.
