He made me feel okay about myself. I was so filled with sadness and he showed me kindness when nobody else did. He really felt like a father
to me. He did for years.

When I was around 13, Jim would rapidly develop stage 4 colon cancer.

It wasn’t long before he was gone. I was devastated.

Jim had a daughter my age, so her and I quickly became friends along with our parents. Jim and his daughter were going through a rough time already, with his wife passing away from brain cancer just before we got to know them.
He quickly became a prominent father figure in my life. 4/7

Growing up, I didn’t have a dad or a father figure. He was removed from my life very early on for being a negligent alcoholic POS. My mom, who was single then, moved to a new city with us to start a brand new life.
She met a ton of cool new people, but one stuck out: Jim.
