I think it’s helpful to understand how this works, and seeing how a real life example works out is much clearer than trying to explain the theory!

You might look at this & say “but it isn’t proportional”. And you’re right. It can only deliver rough proportionality when aggregated across the nation.

Good spot Will! And why are Darren Millar and the Welsh Conservatives silent on the Gill bribery case? It should be a gift for them to try to win back voters from Reform…or maybe they are worried that it undermines the whole Brexit project that Darren enthusiastically backed 🤔

Nation.cymru banned from the Welsh Labour conference?? It would be interesting to know what Mike Hedges MS, a regular Nation columnist, thinks about that.

Great article, it never ceases to amaze me how so many people in Wales accept our second class status in the UK and think that’s just the way it is and nothing can be done about it. We’ve been conditioned to think that way over hundreds of years.

Brilliant Will 👏👏
Ask people what was the biggest mistake of the 1997-2007 UK Labour govt and most will say Iraq. And of course Iraq was a disaster, but I still say Labour’s biggest mistake was the failure to introduce electoral reform from a position of strength as a majority government.

And that one person isn’t even POTUS, it’s the PM of Israel. The Trump administration had no intention of bombing Iran until Israel attacked Iran, so Donald Trump has now effectively told the world that Binyamin Netanyahu is driving US foreign policy.

According to the NAO around £30 billion has been spent on HS2 so far. Wales gets around 6% of England spending under the Barnett formula, implying £1.8 billion under Barnett. So how is this more? 🤔🤷‍♂️

And let’s be clear what this means: we are paying for this railway and we get nothing in return. The people of Wales, with a child poverty rate of 30%, are paying for a new railway connecting some of the wealthiest areas of England. And we get nothing in return.

This should be the biggest story in Wales tonight, on the front page of every local paper and top of every Welsh news website, but guess what: it doesn’t even merit a mention on BBC Wales News. 🤦‍♂️

What are they afraid of?
