Places and facts. Mad about maps and the lines that connect and divide.
Fascinated by the riddle of electoral system change.
Those are just his lower teeth

That'd only need a statutory change. I'm pretty sure there's a bill in Congress right now.

Not sure why you left off list making, another key element of the passage you quoted in your screenshot.

I'm hearing there has in fact been fighting in the War Room

Thank you so much for this balanced perspective. I fear we're going to end up rewriting the Constitution to say "Donald Trump is a terrible person and president" which is true but not necessarily relevant after him. It's the Third Amendment problem.

I'm still not convinced on the pardons issue (America does not have an underprosecution problem outside the president and his cronies) but I'd gladly accept those changes in exchange for an open and amendable constitution. @constitutionctr.bsky.social has suggested amending the amendment process.

I spent a few years in South Korea and the Korean historical resentment toward Japan is entirely justified. Even so, I can't bring myself to care about Dokdo, or whatever the Japanese call it.
Just do what the Canadians and Danes do and exchange soju for sake and call it even.

Well actually *is crushed by falling anvil* *continues through death rattle* Pike companies often included at least some billmen, in roles like guarding flanks.

To the extent that the Red Wedding storyline plays a role, it's a good example of how imitation so often misses the point of the original. In the story, the betrayal is loudly foreshadowed. As a reader/watcher I only miss the clues because of my assumptions about heroism and plot armor.

As my not at all unique or insightful pinned skeet states, binary choice can't work when one option is actively destructive, people have to be free to change their minds. A piece of the solution for me is multiparty democracy but I'm getting interested is German-like limits on anti-system parties.

I claim no expertise in law or war but it was striking that the reaction was "how dare you say that!" not "we would never issue an illegal order!"

Council Wars would reinforce the importance of the charter. (In a surprise to any Chicagoan who ever crossed Richard J Daley, Chicago has a weak mayor system, a majority of the council can run most of the city in spite of the mayor. That is very much not the case in New York.)

Historians of Jim Crow notwithstanding, America has never been a dictatorship in the places or to the people that matter to the auto-hagiography that is our national story. It means that our leaders lack the reflexes for what to do when it begins to show itself.

That lines up with my read of South Korea. Martial law was (initially and superficially) legal and constitutional but Koreans had the experience of decades of soldiers in their streets and they were not going to wait till morning to think it over soberly.
History matters.

Parler and Gab say hello. There's been a surprising amount of effort put into designing the worst possible app.

I feel like there's an ongoing equation of natural with good (also misused by supplement peddlers lol).
That our urge for revenge is natural (and any serious observation of any historical human society should lead to that conclusion) does not make it good. It's great that we can overcome instinct.

I was under the impression that woo had reversed its polarity after 2020.
Apparently burning sage has not been shown to be an effective public health intervention.

Yep, that's steroids, not some divine blessing.
I wonder, are the affections of America's favorite journalist worth the blinding and enslavement?
