Doing this recording really reminded me that, while I have some level of experience with reading and voice-overs, I still have a lot further to go before I feel like I can do a book with 2~3 distinct voiced characters I have a default speaking voice, and I'm somewhat comfortable with RP alongside varying thicknesses of a Japanese accent, but that doesn't really mean that I can really pull off a distinct character. Lady Allena Benoch is said to be a fairly blunt person, and, I surmise, a no-nonsense, efficient person as well, but I don't know if she would tarry on certain words while thinking, or if she would be the type to have a thinking "mmmm" as her filler, or have enough training to not have any verbal fillers at all :cat_think: I imagine her as a mature woman in many ways, but I'm not sure how that would come out in her voice aside from having a deeper, warmer voice. I'm sure she'd have a commanding, imperious voice in training or battle, but would that colour her voice in normal conversations as well? Would she thus be intimidating? Would she radiate an aura of danger even without that voice? Or would she be a Frieren, unassuming, disarming, and calming to be in the presence of, whose terrifying strength is only detectable at the moment of need, wielded with the practiced efficiency and elegance of one who has failed more times than most others have even thought about trying? And then, would I have the capacity to bring such a voice to life? There's a character called Jomic in the book Night Falls On Sentinel (which I've also recorded as well as read a few times on stream) whose character I have much more of a grasp of, both in mind and voice. Gruff, crude, but by no means an apex predator, and not quite as clever as he thinks he is. I suppose part of it is that I have so much room to play with his voice considering my vocal range, but being able to get my head around the character feels like it's doing a lot of the heavy lifting
