I kept coins in the car for paying tolls or for parking, right up until some shithead broke into my car for three whole dollars. After that I decided it was best to keep absolutely nothing in my car, ever.

I misread this at first and thought you were talking about Koji Igarashi… I was indeed very confused.

They’ve got to make autocorrect suck so that when they “replace” it in iOS 27 with an AI-powered version, it looks like a huge upgrade.

They deserve no credit after cramming spyware in the last Pathfinder game. I’m not surprised at all to hear this from them.

God, why do I understand this?

The DQ 1+2 remake is pretty good. The DQ1 half (third?) is more of an appetizer and poorly balanced compared to DQ2. But with DQ2 they added a lot to the presentation and modernized it in a good way - more so than with the DQ3 remake.

I think this is mostly where indie devs work nowadays. There’s a veritable sea of great games out there though. (Shameless self-promotion incoming) Try my game for a few hours if you want:

These people don’t want an enlightened future. They want the dark ages.

I wonder if players are expecting those massive budgets, or if a “fun game” still wins out in the end. Clair Obscur still had to be a fun game on top of its huge budget, I just hope that the fun is still the important part.

Playing by different rules than the rest of us plebs, I guess. “Wow, you did an awfully good job of robbing me! You must be an exceptional robber, let me invest in your larceny!”

In fact, I would argue that even as far back as the original Dragon Quest, the hook was the approachability of what was, at the time, a very dense and “crunchy” genre. The story was very much secondary - but I acknowledge that the synergy between the gameplay and story helped *keep* players hooked.
December 6, 2025 at 1:44 PM
You definitely need a hook of some kind. Steam is full of hundreds of great games lacking a solid enough hook to get people interested and/or talking about it. But if you look at a game like Balatro, it doesn’t have a story - it just has a very solid hook and a fun gameplay loop.

And for some reason, their sniveling consultants are hard sold on the idea that trans people are a “problem” that Americans want “solved” - which is inherently no less hateful than the fascists’ mindset, just less immediately violent.
December 6, 2025 at 1:28 PM
If anything, to me it signals what empty vessels they are. They are bowls of opposition politics filled only by whatever their consultants deem statistically likely to score them +1 point in one region or another. They have no real beliefs—they believe whatever they think gets more votes.

You get what you measure, and people are measuring engagement and profit because “fun” is hard to quantify.

Watching this video, I forgot how… joyful? so many of these games were. Time has reduced the 360 into the “Halo” and “Gears of War” machine but it had so much more.

Out of curiosity, what were the other reasons you dropped it? I fell off in Act 3 as well without really understanding why. It just kind of lost the magic for me somewhere at the end of Act 2 I think.

It probably helps to have a few million dollars worth of marketing budget. What, you don’t have a few million dollars kicking around you can spend on sponsoring YouTube videos and streams, taking out ad campaigns on gaming websites (what’s left of them), and making TikTok videos? (/s)

I hope games like Expedition 33 or the success of the Dragon Quest remasters has shown Square that they can make an RPG and have it be successful - they don’t need to make everything an action RPG. Imagine an FF9-like game with the full modern force of SE behind it.

It’s the joy and curse of commander: it’s a lot of different things to different people. I’m torn on what I want it to be, personally. I enjoy fun, dumb, splashy games but I can’t help but over-optimize the fun out of my decks to make them more consistent and have more answers.
October 31, 2025 at 2:28 PM
I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not, but I do feel like some of the “flavor” of the rules was lost in the transition from 2nd Ed to 3.0. I don’t know if that flavor was to everyone’s taste, necessarily, but it was definitely lost.
