A fantastic writer. His Rolling Stones book is one of the greatest rock tomes ever, and "Rhythm Oil" is not far behind.

Indeed. W. J. Rorabaugh's fascinating "Alcoholic Republic" not only reveals the enormous amounts early 19th century Americans drank, but argues that their consumption of whiskey led to a perpetual and debilitating clash between their aspirations and reality. Great Book!!
